American in Russia

I have lived in Russia for more than 23 years and have a lot of knowledge about life in Russia, how people live in Russia, Homes in Russia, Russian schools, raising children in Russia, Russian food, travel in Russia, Russian people, Russian customs and just about anything else you can think of concerning Russia. Living for 23 years in an area of the world can give you a different perspective on life there than you would have during a short stay. It also has the added benefit of letting you see what life here was like more than 23 years ago, rather than 20 days ago.

For now, one new video per week, released on Saturdays

Sorry to keep promising to drop my latest video. Although things are going well, the healing process for knee replacement is not quick at all. There are side effects which are hard to deal with at times. I find I can only sit in a chair for about 5 minutes max before the pressure on the underside of my leg makes it impossible to continue. Unfortunately, producing a new video actually involves a lot of time sitting in front of a computer. About 12 days ago I said I would try to get a new episode made in a week, but that hasn't happened.

I am trying to produce it, but my desires exceed my abilities.

Again, I hope in about a week to release this new informative episode and I thank you for your patience.

Hi Viewers!

Just a quick message to let you know that I am now back home after my knee replacement surgery and , spoiler alert, things went well. The recovery is pretty tough and vigarous in terms of all to be done, but I'm doing my best. I have a lot of material already for my next video, but I'm not quite in the condition yet to make it. I have seen a lot of comments posted, but to be honest, I haven't been able to read them yet, but do thank all of you so much for posting them. I hope in about a week to post my "After Surgery" video. My equipment and the room I use as a studio are on the second floor of my house and I haven't mastered the stairs yet. I'm kind of living on my first floor.
Thank you again for your many well wishes and know that things went well and I'll post again in about a week.

In a few days, I’ll be heading to Moscow for knee replacement surgery.
As some of you know, this is being done through the Russian medical system, since I’m a permanent resident here.
A lot of people have asked how the approval process actually works, what tests are required, and how long it takes — so I filmed a video explaining the whole process step-by-step, from the first doctor visit to getting a surgery date.
No hype, no horror stories, just how it really works.
I'll post this part 1 video on either Sunday or Monday (November 16th or 17th).

Part 2 will come after the surgery, once I’m home and walking again. I’ll talk about how the operation went and what recovery looks like in real life — not the dramatic version people like to imagine.
Thanks for the encouragement and steady messages. Recovery will take time, and I’ll take it one day at a time.

A couple of years ago I set up a Telegram channel in anticipation that Russia was going to block You Tube. At this point it was my understanding that You Tube was being throttled in Russia, but I now see in many areas it is totally blocked, so I might be too late already. Anyhow, the address of my American in Russia Telegram channel is: t.me/americaninrussia Please join. I'll continue to post on You Tube and also Telegram, though I've heard rumors that Telegram is the next scheduled social site to disappear here in Russia. Anyhow, please join my Telegram website.

To my Dear Subscribers,

I usually (lately) try to post a new video every Thursday or Friday, but this week the video will be several days late (Sorry!). I've had some hospital type issues to take care of (scheduled stuff) over the past 5 days. Everything is now fine and I'll continue with my next video. I like the topic and I hope you will also.

I would like to thank all of my subscribers. Today I hit more than 1000 subscribers. I posted a video two days ago explaining some changes I wanted to make on my channel. As a way to measure how effective the changes are I set a goal of 1000 subscribers and a minimum of 1000 views. Well, I'm blown away. In less than 2 days I went from 261 subscribers to more than 1060. I've had more than 12000 views so far on that video.
Mind you, I know this wasn't because of anything I did, but because somehow I hit the algorithm. So many of you saw my video in your recommendations and clicked on it. Thank you so much for this. In the future I'll do what I can to earn your views. So, I welcome all of my new subscribers and thank my 261 subscribers for being so patient and sticking around with me.

I'll release a new video within the next week. We've been busy getting our daughters enrolled in universities, which of course can be a bit of a stressful process. Part of this time has been back and forth train trips between home and Moscow. The train can be nice and gives you time to ponder your thoughts. I'll leave you with a photo of that type of moment.
