On 8-9 May, 2026, The Centre for Market Regulations and Governance (CMRG), organised a workshop on Responsible Regulation at Vidyashilp University, centred around Regulatory Impact Assessments (RIAs) and Public consultations.
At a time when regulation intrinsically shapes finance, technology, labour, and public services; conversations on how regulation is designed are just as important as debates around what regulation seeks to achieve. This workshop is just the beginning of fostering a space to engage with these questions in a practical and interdisciplinary way.

What made the program especially rewarding was the diversity of perspectives in the room. Both facilitators and participants brought a rich viewpoint from their various fields of practice in regulatory authorities, academia, research and civil society. Across the two days, the workshop explored not only the theory behind responsible regulation, but also the institutional and practical challenges involved in implementing tools like RIAs and meaningful public consultations in India.
Thoughtful questions, critical engagement, and substantial discussions all enriched the workshop immeasurably.
A big thank you to all the resource persons who contributed their time and expertise, and to all the participants whose engagement made the workshop such a valuable experience.
We hope this is just the start of many conversations and collaborations that seek to build more transparent, evidence-based, and responsible regulatory processes in India.
