Hi everyone,
I’ve recently added a link for an Audible free trial: amzn.to/4hgkFh8
One of the small ways you can help support the channel is by using the affiliate links in my video descriptions.
If you haven’t come across Audible before, it’s Amazon’s audiobook service, and I’ve personally been a member for many years. It has a huge range of fiction and non-fiction, and I find audiobooks a wonderful way to learn, unwind and enjoy a good story while I’m doing other things.

Over the years, I’ve listened to the complete Sherlock Holmes collection by Arthur Conan Doyle, Homer’s Odyssey, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari, and many more.

If you’re eligible for the free trial and fancy giving it a go, please consider signing up through my link. The channel receives a small commission for a qualifying trial, at no additional cost to you—and you’re under no obligation to continue with a paid subscription afterwards.

Thanks, as always, for supporting the channel.

All the best,
Mike

I mentioned in Tuesday’s video that I’d had to raid my savings to buy the largest amount of wood I’ve ever bought in one go… well, today was collection day!

I hired a van and came home with 118 slabs of figured maple and myrtle. 😲

It’s all unloaded now, and once I’ve recovered from shifting the lot, I’ll have a proper think about what on earth I’m going to do with it all!

I’ve certainly got plenty of future projects sitting there, so if you’ve got any ideas or suggestions for what you’d like to see me make, let me know in the comments. 😊

☁️ A little bit of cloud spotting today!

As some of you may know, as well as being slightly obsessed with wood, I’m also a proud member of the Cloud Appreciation Society! 😁☁️

Today I spotted this fantastic example of mammatus clouds. They’re named after the distinctive pouch-like formations that hang underneath the cloud, created by pockets of cooler, moisture-laden air sinking downwards.

They’re often associated with thunderstorms and turbulent weather, but they can also appear without anything particularly dramatic happening below.

I just love how otherworldly they look — almost like someone has taken the sky and started carving shapes into it!

Sometimes it pays to stop looking at the trees… and look up. 🌳☁️

🌲 Trees and flowers around my hotel– Norfolk Island Pine

Next up in my little Trees of Tunisia series is one I've absolutely fallen in love with — the Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla).

Despite its name, it isn't actually a true pine. It's a member of the ancient Araucaria family and originates from Norfolk Island in the South Pacific, between Australia and New Zealand. Its wonderfully symmetrical shape, straight trunk and distinctive tiers of branches make it an incredibly striking tree, and it's now grown as an ornamental tree in warm climates all around the world.

But there's another reason this particular tree interests me... the wood! 😁

Norfolk Island Pine can produce some absolutely spectacular figuring, particularly where the regularly spaced branches meet the trunk. When turned, these knots can create beautiful repeating patterns and dramatic contrast that almost looks deliberately designed.

I've seen some incredible pieces turned from this timber and it's firmly on my woodturning bucket list. One day I'm going to find a suitable piece and get it on the lathe!

Until then, I'll just have to admire these magnificent specimens here in Tunisia. 🌲🪵
