The True Adventures of Gidon Lev

Many people do not realize that there were over 44,000 Nazi concentration camps. If they know much about the Holocaust at all, they might be aware of the "death camps" and even be able to name a couple, like Auschwitz-Birkenau or Treblinka. But the reality is that these camps and subcamps numbered in the tens of thousands and served many different purposes for the 3rd Reich, from slave labor to extermination. The cruelty and depravity at these camps is impossible to describe. Fortunately, many of these sites are memorialized today and have dedicated people who work there to keep this important history alive for future lessons.

On TikTok, Gidon and I sometimes get comments from people who have had the opportunity to actually visit a concentration camp memorial. They say that it changed their lives forever. Yet, for most of us, actually visiting a concentration camp memorial is out of reach. Europe is distant and expensive.

So Gidon and I decided to make a number of short videos that would offer viewers mini-tours of concentration camp memorial sites and other Holocaust-related memorials. These mini-tours and informational tiny docs are no substitute for a real visit. And they aren't a substitute for reading books about the Holocaust. But they do offer a thumbnail sketch of the history of some of these sites. At least as importantly, the guides for these mini-tours show viewers that there is a generation of young people who are passionate about passing along the important lessons of the Holocaust.

We hope that you are inspired to learn even more after viewing these short videos and that you follow the memorial sites covered on social media and look them up on Google to deepen your knowledge. Because history matters.
