I am all about value-for-money so expect backpacking gear reviews from cheap to expensive kit and I will give you my honest opinion. My aim is to offer solutions no matter your budget and personal requirements.

Caught out by the wind again! ⛺️ 💨
Once again, the forecast was wrong. Initially in my favour. What should have been overcast was blue sky and sunshine.
However, from 3:15am the wind started raging! I spent at least half an hour trying to perfect the guy lines to maximize the chances that f the tent surviving.
And survive it did! Really impressed with the TFS Tents Saga. It performed brilliantly. Had I been using trekking poles, I could have utilized the tent’s trekking pole sleeves to strengthen the door sides of the tent too.
A great wild camp bringing yet more experience of camping in challenging conditions.

A stunning tent, packed full of features. Could this be ‘the one’?
The 2026 Terra Nova Southern Cross 1 is a huge improvement over its predecessor. 28% larger, more features and stronger too.
It’s a 4 season tent that can handle all but the worst of conditions.

The STRONGEST 2 person backpacking tent just landed!
This beast is the brand new @nortent_of_norway Varde 2 tent.
It's a true 4 season tent. The Varde uses no less than 4 x 10.25mm DAC poles, 16 stakes and 20 guy lines.
This tent will look after you in the worst weather, be it wind, rain or snow.
Alternatively, when the weather is perfect, open it up fully to enjoy the views.
Cost is approx £700 to the UK including taxes.
Pros: build quality, weatherproofness, design and features.

It has been be one of the most versatile tents out there. Open it up fully for the long summer nights or close it all down for wintery chills.
There is tonnes of vestibule space for storing gear, cooking and gaining easy access.
Inside there is lots of space for two tall people using long and wide sleeping pads.
Quality is superb as we’ve come to expect from the Norwegians.
This lighter 3S version, with a much smaller pack size, makes it a great option for 2 person backpacking.

What a morning! 🌅
Woke up to a part-sunrise, part cloud-inversion. At times it'd looked like a mysterious land from another galaxy.
The new Nortent Vern 1 3S performed brilliantly and handled the gusts with ease. No real condensation to report of.
Before packing up I ascended Brim Fell, just 100m from my wild camping spot.
Afterwards | ascended to iconic Old Man of Coniston.
Great to see lots of early risers hiking up plus a handful of wild campers.
This left Dow Crag left to tick off. This is a cracking mountain and very craggy.
A couple of lessor known smaller summits after and then the long way back down to Coniston where I finished off with a Full English.
This is one of the best hike / camps I've ever done. I'd highly recommend it, especially if it's dry with no cloud cover.
I'll certainly be back! ⛰️

Day 1 ⛺️
Wow, what a day. Warm and humid but all the summits were in view.
8 miles and 4,000 ft in, I pitch about 100m away from Brim Fell.
I had a great wild camping spot, superb views and a nice flat grassy pitch.
Testing out the new Nortent Vern 1 3S and Fjallraven Kajka Latt 45 backpack.

Absolutely gutted 💔
Today one of my heros died. He was an inspiration to me and millions of others.
His 14 Peaks video and book re-trained my brain to think what is possible.
I have no doubt his legacy will continue for years.
