Alrighty everybody, I wanted to do a big post to talk about what's been going on with the channel and what's coming up next so, here we are. Last time we talked I was working on a Christmas Carol video and that was true, until tragedy struck. unfortunately, I had a hard drive mishap, and I basically lost the entire channel for a hot minute, including the in-progress Christmas Carol video. I was able to do some memory recovery on the drive and recover all of the basic files for the channel, but I lost everything after the "The Night is Short, Walk on Girl" video. So instead of starting from scratch on the Christmas Carol video, which missed the holiday season entirely, I decided to delay that one till the end of 2024. I still have the original script for it saved to the cloud, so I'll be revisiting that project later this year.
You may have noticed the image attached to this post (yep that's me, bet you're wondering how I got into this situation?) This was from a test recording for an upcoming video I'm working on that I wrote more than a year ago, titled "Night of the Living Dead Is a Perfect Horror Film".
With this video I'm taking a big step and changing some of the vibe of the channel. Originally, I wanted to do everything in a very dry academic style, but after doing over a dozen videos in this manner, I'm starting to realize it's really difficult and lacks a lot of my own personality. So, in an effort to make the content more interesting for me to make, and also take the channel to the next level I'm changing the writing style to be more like "me talking" and less "me giving you a straight-faced dissertation on a subject". I want to be clear though, the original idea for the channel is not changing, I wanted to create a channel where I talked about stuff that I was interested in and veered away from being negative or creating videos about things I disliked just to get views. It's why the banner on the channel says, "spread the love" and that's not changing with this tone shift.
Along with the tone shift I'll be incorporating more live action elements with me standing in my Halloween themed bar I built (I know I'm a dork). This will not only make the content feel different, but it will make it so much easier to edit since I won't have to fill all of the space with video capture which can be very daunting and uninteresting to me.
As far as the Night of the Living Dead video goes, there's a script, I ran some recording tests and found flaws in my work which I'm currently adjusting for (a fancy teleprompter is in the mail right now). So, I have no estimated time for when this video is going to actually come out, but I wanted to set expectations on what's going on going forward with the channel.
An update on the Christmas Carol video. I got pretty far into production of this and had fully intended to get it out before Christmas but life had other ideas. I got sick right before Christmas and tried to power through and finish but decided I needed to recover, this has been a really tough year professionally, very busy and exhausting and I needed a break. I fully intended to finish it right after the Christmas rush while I was still on break but then I got sick...again. So as for now the editing is about 50% done and will remain that way for a little while longer.
My next video is in production, and it's all about one of my favorite animated films in recent memory "The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl". It'll probably be shorter than the last one and is meant to be just a quick little quality one.
I wanted to talk about Belle (2021) immediately after I saw it. In fact, the night I saw it for the first time I wrote down the working script for this video on binder paper and went from there, so a lot of the things I had to say in this literally came out of my brain hours after watching it. Since then I've watched it two more times.
Unfortunately, I Had a lot of setbacks trying to get this latest video essay done, and it took months of fixing audio issues, rerecording different aspects, etc.
To be honest, regardless of the fact that the intro to this is the best one I've ever edited (in my opinion) I feel like I struggled with this one a lot, and I can't help but be slightly disappointed in it. I feel like a film this beautiful deserved better. Either way, I hope you enjoy it.
So I was going to drop the Little Witch Academia video today buuuut, YouTube decided to block the video completely because I used a minute or two of the show to close out the video. So...I have to re-edit it and cut the content. It's unfortunate and I think actively makes the video worse but what can you do.

I have some good news, the next video is almost done already. Thankfully it's a video I mostly wrote and conceived a few months back but decided to tackle other projects before I finished it. It's titled "Little Witch Academia, Alan Moore, and the Magic Of Art". While these things seem like they shouldn't go together in any meaningful way, I promise you there's a coherent throughline.
Apologies for the delay in the next video, work got really crazy and then I took a trip to Star Wars Celebration so I wasn't able to put a lot of work into it. Now that I'm back I've started plugging away at it again and hopefully soon I'll be able to release it.
The next video is in full swing! I'm remaking a video essay I made back in the day that next ever saw the light of day. It's titled "Batman and Guns: A History" and it tracks Batman's evolution from gun toating vigilante to an anti-gun super-hero. I'm looking forward to people finally seeing it cause I think it's some of my best work research-wise.
