Peer-to-peer videos (every 7-10 days) intended to support others in living an integrated life of faith. Mind + heart + practical application in the Catholic Christian tradition. Please first look to the Church for the formation of your conscience. Probably mispronouncing something.

My five-year-old somehow posted a video of herself singing as a short while I was letting our chickens out, in case anyone was confused. Lucky you if you were one of the 60 people who had the pleasure of viewing it before I moved it to unlisted. šŸ˜…

Hi everyone,

I wanted to follow up on my recent Substack post reflecting on my grief over the loss of Charlie Kirk. I tried to speak honestly and respectfully. A few people chose to unfollow me after that post, which I don’t take that too personally. I'm not here to manage an image, but I am deeply concerned about my witness to Christ. As a baptized Christian, I bear His name, and I take that seriously. That means everything I say, especially in public, should reflect His truth, His mercy, and His justice. While I am speaking from my own perspective, I am well aware of the perspective of others and don’t want to give rise to the possibility of scandal. I don’t want to conflate conservatism with Christianity.

I’m not here to make a final judgment about his character. That’s not my place. I see the risk on both sides: of misrepresenting his views or taking them out of context, and of minimizing or overlooking real shortcomings that may have caused harm. What I can say is that racism and injustice are always wrong. They are antithetical to the Gospel, and I would never want to give the impression that I condone or overlook them.

I also want to acknowledge that he spoke with courage and clarity on deeply important issues that I also see as dangerous and insidious to our culture. I’ve been really grieved by the flippant or even celebratory reactions to his death. I’m also troubled by the harsh condemnation of people who have been struck by a kind of grief they may not even fully understand and are actively working through. None of us sees the full picture. We’re shaped by different narratives, algorithms, communities, instincts, and wounds. That doesn’t excuse ignorance or harm, but it does complicate how we come to our impressions and reactions.

I haven't seen all the same videos you may have. I haven't read all the same sources. I don’t claim to have it all figured out. But I do believe we need space to process things out loud (imperfectly) and to be corrected when necessary. I’m more interested in truth than in being right. If I’m wrong, I want to know.

I’m sharing all of this not to stir controversy, but because I believe Christians are called to speak truthfully, humbly, and carefully, especially when the world is watching. To bear Christ’s name is not just a private identity; it’s a public responsibility. I want my words to reflect Him. Not just what I think, but who He is.

The people who have loved me best are the ones who’ve challenged me, called me deeper, and helped me grow. I hope this can be a space where we can both find common ground and disagree respectfully. I’m not here to curate an audience that only agrees with me. I want to talk to all kinds of people and hear all kinds of perspectives. I don’t want to ā€œrise upā€ or strong arm my own ideas or engage in culture war. I want cultural dialogue and mutual respect.

Thanks for being here.

Devastated by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Doesn’t feel right to post a video today. I shared some thoughts here:

Hey everyone! I just posted a video engaging with Dr. Gavin Ortlund’s ā€œThe Ultimate Case for Sola Scripturaā€ (on his ⁨Truth Unites⁩ channel). If you're subscribed, you might not have received a notification, since the video was unlisted before going public.

A couple of clarifications:

First, Dr. Ortlund is a respected scholar and a prominent voice in Protestant theology, and this video isn’t intended as a formal rebuttal or an attempt to draw attention to my small channel. It is simply an unscripted, personal response from someone engaging seriously with the questions he raises. As I watched, I had a number of thoughts from a Catholic perspective that I felt were worth sharing (i.e. had a burning desire to share), especially for others who may be wrestling with the same issues.

Second, since the video is off-the-cuff, there are a few moments where I could’ve been clearer or more precise. In particular, I approached the Anglican statement through a sola scriptura lens rather than from within the Anglican framework. I added a visual clarification there and in other places throughout the video to help address those areas. If I’ve missed something, I genuinely welcome correction and conversation.

Thanks so much, as always, for watching and supporting!

This is a devastating but crucially important read about the implementation of MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) in Canada. What a reminder to seek out this vulnerable population, those who feel lonely or as if they are burdens. šŸ–¤

This is a gift article so you can read the whole thing: www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2025/09/canad…

My latest video on Vatican I has a great retention rate (for me), but the click-through rate is about half as good as normal. I just changed the title - hopefully that helps! You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/XyknxFl3F-Y?si=phfMq...

Which one is more clickable??

Sharing my experience from jail ministry this week. Please remember these men in your prayers today if you feel called to do so. :)

Finishing up editing on my latest video! As I was working on my scripts for Vatican I, Marian dogmas, and Nicaea II, I realized the issue beneath the issue was ā€œaccretionā€ theology. So I wanted to tackle that first, but between toilet training my youngest and otherwise being a mom of 4… life is happening to me. šŸ™ƒ But a video on accretions is coming soon! Maybe later today, otherwise probably tomorrow.

I am not going to do a video on whether Muslims worship the same God as Catholics (hot topic right now if you weren't aware!), but I wanted to share some thoughts turning in my head.

By using ā€œMuslimsā€ instead of ā€œIslam,ā€ the language of Vatican II intentionally speaks to persons rather than Islam as a belief system. Catholicism holds firmly to the revealed truths and principles of the Christian faith. It also considers people as subjects, honoring their dignity and conscience. When you hear the word ā€œMuslim,ā€ what kind of person comes to mind? Vatican II was pastoral, intended for real encounter with real people and not just abstract ideas. Without a specific person in mind, YouTubers are speaking abstractly, and not engaging with the actual nature of the council.

I have worked with Afghan immigrants since 2022, both Shia and Sunni Muslims. Some were forcibly separated from their children and spouses by the Taliban during their chaotic evacuation. Some carry physical scars from resistance to the Taliban. Some carry emotional and spiritual wounds from oppression. They all know God in personal ways. Many follow their consciences in accordance with reason and inspired by their personal faith, even in the face of real and severe threats against them. There is a real difference between a Muslim who inflicts wounds in God's name, and the one who actively resists evil in God's name. Am I not allowed to find personal resistance against injustice honorable?

Because they believe in the God of Abraham, I can talk about Hagar with them, who knows the "God Who Sees", a God who is present in their suffering. They experience God's concern for them personally and know Him as present and merciful. As a Christian, I understand this as God the Son mysteriously revealing Himself to them in ways beyond words. They feel His concern for the widow and the orphan. I have prayed alongside them through their suffering. There is no doubt in my mind that God is at work in their hearts in a very real way.

Because of language barriers, it’s not always possible to know whether they reject the Trinity based on a misunderstanding of the doctrine or from deliberate opposition. What I do know is that Christ reveals Himself not only historically but personally, and I believe the Holy Spirit is at work in every heart.

I wrote a letter to the editor a few years ago, in a similar vein but more politically focused, if anyone is interested: reasonablediscourse.substack.com/p/letter-to-the-e…
