I tend to get into a production mind set all to often while working in the shop. But taking the time to make interesting one off pieces can be much more satisfying from a creative perspective. This kettle stand, made for a neighbor, is an example of that type of work. I have no plans to make these as a production item, but this was worth the time invested just to have the experience and to work through the process of making the big forge welded ring.

Black Bear Forge

Like many of you watching, I have numerous things I am interested in. Blacksmithing, woodworking, travel and of course making YouTube videos. Naturally I want to make videos about the other things I am doing in addition to blacksmithing. 6 years I started my second channel, John Switzer for the non blacksmithing content. Recently I have been focusing that channel more on woodworking and home improvement topics. Unfortunately those videos are forcing the more personal aspect of that channel to take a back seat. I have decided that I would prefer to bring the woodworking and any other how-to, shop, tool related videos back over to Black Bear Forge. With that in mind there are a handful of the videos on the personal channel I will be bring over here and re uploading to this channel.

I’ve been working on a set of hinges with multiple forge welded elements. I thought these would be Sundays video, but I have really enjoyed taking a slower more relaxed approach on this project and didn’t get them done in time. They should be ready for next week and I did get a skill based video for the new back to basics video shot for tomorrow morning.
