We are thrilled to announce that John Lee Hooker – CHILL OUT is now available at independent record stores!
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Hooker’s classic 1995 album, this limited-edition LP pressed on blue vinyl honors a landmark in Blues history.
Winner of the W.C. Handy Award for Traditional Blues Album of the Year, CHILL OUT features unforgettable collaborations with legendary artists including Van Morrison, Carlos Santana, Charles Brown, and Booker T. Jones.
We’re excited to share that John Lee Hooker's IT SERVE YOU RIGHT TO SUFFER was featured in Billboard’s 10 best reissues of 2025.
As Billboard Notes: "John Lee Hooker’s album for Impulse! paired him with jazz musicians and producer Bob Thiele, and it’s quieter and less raw than most of his work. It has just as much power, though, and this reissue, part of the generally fantastic Verve Acoustic Sounds Series, captures all of it. This is blues, recorded at the highest standard, without sacrificing any grit."

“John Lee Hooker and Keith Richards photographed on April 11, 1991 at Russian Hill Recorders in San Francisco, CA. My dad was hired by Hooker’s management to capture some candid shots of the two together after they’d just recorded a track for Hooker’s new album. They paid little attention to him as they relaxed, drinking whiskey, smoking cigarettes, and chatting about getting together at Hooker’s house the next day to do it all over again.” - Ricki Blakesberg of Jay Blakesberg Photography
John Lee Hooker loved people and always made sure he had time for everyone. To carry on his legacy, the Hooker family created the John Lee Hooker Foundation, supporting communities and individuals in need through grassroots fundraising and nonprofit partnerships.
In 1996, John Lee Hooker was celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Blues Foundation.
The night featured tributes from Blues legends including Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, B.B. King, Robert Cray, Luther Allison, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruth Brown, and Little Milton, all gathered at B.B. King’s club in Los Angeles.
A congratulatory letter from President Clinton was also read aloud, honoring Hooker’s towering influence on American music.
