In observance of Juneteenth, I've started reading "Barracoon" by Zora Neale Hurston. The man you see on the cover is Cudjo Lewis, one of the last survivors of the Transatlantic slave trade. He was one of the very last Africans enslaved and brought here to America on a ship.

His descendants live in Mobile, Alabama til this day. The first chapter is hard to read. He was from the Isha Yoruba people in Benin and his name was Oluale Kossola. He was 19 when captured, so he spoke Yoruba and everything. He was able to tell the story of how his village was raided by the Fon tribe of Dahomey. He goes into detail about how the female warriors, the Fon Amazons, initiated the attack and slaughtered them. Those who tried to escape were decapitated by the male soldiers. Hurston later said, "“One thing impressed me strongly…The white people had held my people in slavery here in America. But the inescapable fact that stuck in my craw, was: my people had sold me and the white people bought me. That did away with the folklore I had been brought up on. It was a sobering thought”.

Happy Juneteenth! This is a photo of Emancipation Day Celebration, held June 19, 1900 or Juneteenth in Austin, Texas. To observe this day, I spent some time reading on how it came about and reflected on what it means to me as a Black American in 2022. Enslaved Black folks in Texas had to wait 2 years before they were free because Texas was a rebel state at war with the U.S. government. Our people in Texas held watch and held on, knowing that one day, they and their descendants would be free. We come from strong stock and even when it looks like the chips are down, we somehow manage to overcome. We did it then and we'll do it again. Just watch. I honor all of those who have come before me. May we make you proud. 💝

Hey y'all! I've been super busy, but plan to start getting videos out again in the coming weeks. I'm thinking about doing a mini documentary. Who is a public figure you'd want to see a documentary about?

Heyy 👋🏾I have a question for the fellas on my page only. How important is having a quiet home to you? Would you marry a woman who doesn't keep the home quiet (ie noisy children,tv on all the time, etc)?

This beautiful young woman passed away after getting a BBL & tummy tuck done in the Dominican Republic. The rise in BW getting surgery to have these Instagram bodies is scary. Having a bigger bottom or a flatter tummy can't be worth a human life. RIP to her. It's time for accepting your body the way it is to come back into style.
