Blizzard hit. Camp collapsed. Only shelter? An abandoned mountain cabin.
No heat. One futon. And a fire that wouldn’t light.
Perfect.
They were soaked, cold, silent. Shara sat near the wall. Kakashi by the shattered window.
The air? So thick with unsaid things it was *suffocating.*
Finally—
“You were really cozy with Ren,” Kakashi said.
Her eyes flicked over. Calm. Dangerous.
“Oh? You jealous again?”
“I just didn’t know you liked the Mist.”
She smirked. “He’s not from the Mist.”
“…What?”
“His chakra felt familiar, didn’t it?”
Pause. Kakashi blinked.
“Wait—”
She grinned. “Surprise, Hatake. That was Naruto.”
His mouth parted. No sound came.
Shara leaned back. Arms crossed. “My *little brother*. You almost threw a kunai at my *little brother.*”
Silence.
Then—
“You *set me up.*”
“Yup.”
“You planned this—just to make me *jealous*?”
“Worked, didn’t it?”

He stood up. Fast. Angry. Heart-strangled.
“You’re unbelievable.”
“And you’re a *coward*.”
His eyes flashed. “You think this is easy for me?!”
“No. I think it’s always been easier for you to run.”
He stalked toward her.
“You think I didn’t feel it that night in the cave? The festival? Every time I looked at you and couldn’t *breathe*?”
“Then why didn’t you say something?!”
“Because I was scared I’d ruin us!”
“You ruined us *by staying silent!*”

They were nose to nose. Breaths harsh. Words weaponized.
Then it broke.
Kakashi’s hands grabbed her face. Desperate. Cold. *Honest.*
“I love you.”
Shara froze.
“I’ve loved you since we were kids, and I hated that I loved you because you were always better, faster, braver— and I wanted to *beat* you, not *need* you.”
Her eyes shimmered.
“And when you smiled at him—at Naruto—I thought I’d lost you forever.”
“You never had to lose me,” she whispered, voice breaking. “You just had to fight for me.”

They kissed.
*Really* kissed.
No panic. No almost. No pulling away.
Just warmth. Fingers tangled. Years of pain unraveling in one breathless second.
When they broke apart, foreheads pressed, she whispered:
“Next time, just tell me.”
He nodded, shaky. “No more hiding.”
Outside, snow kept falling.
Inside, they finally stopped pretending.

The Festival of Fire — Konoha's Brightest Night.
Lanterns glowing. Sake flowing. Fireworks above.
Shara arrived late, hair tied up, golden earrings catching the light.
Every head turned.
Even his.
But she wasn’t alone.
A tall shinobi from the Mist, visiting for joint training, stood beside her — Ren
Broad shoulders. Easy grin.
Chakra wild, confidence wilder.
She laughed at something he said.
And Kakashi… forgot how to breathe.
He clenched his jaw.
Crushed the cup in his hand.
Didn’t move from his spot under the trees.
He watched. And watched. And. Watched.
Every time she smiled?
A kunai to his chest.
Every time Ren leaned in?
He saw red.
Obito appeared beside him.
“She’s allowed to be happy, you know.”
“I didn’t say she isn’t.”
“You didn’t have to. Your chakra’s practically screaming.”
“I’m fine.”
Obito smirked. “Sure. And I’m the Hokage.” (i love you mah bro😭🤞🏻)
Later — in the crowd, under the fireworks
Shara twirled her drink in her hand.
Ren leaned closer.
“You’re not looking at me,” he said playfully.
Her smile dimmed. “Sorry. Just… distracted.”
“You thinking about him?”
She didn’t answer.
But her eyes drifted.
Across the festival.
To where Kakashi stood — still, alone, eyes locked on her like she was war and he’d already lost.
He snapped.
Before she could stop him, Kakashi was there.
Standing between her and Ren.
Cold eyes. Low voice.
“Shara. Can we talk?”
Ren raised a brow. “I don’t think she—”
“I wasn’t asking you.”
Shara blinked. Her chakra flared.
“Excuse me?” she said sharply. “You don’t get to bark orders at me.”
But Kakashi’s jaw was tight. His hands trembling. He looked like he was one word away from losing it.
“Please,” he said, voice raw. “Just for a second.”
They stepped away. Alone, behind a lantern-lit stall.
“You’re jealous,” she whispered.
“No, I’m—”
“Don’t lie.”
“I’m furious,” he admitted, stepping closer. “That you smiled at him like that. That you let him touch you—”
“Why do you care?” she snapped. “You didn’t care when it was Sayuri.”
“That was different.”
“How?”
“Because I wasn’t in love with Sayuri.”
Silence.
She froze.
Kakashi’s eyes were on hers. Burning. Frantic.
“I’m in love with you, Shara. Have been. I just— I’m scared I’ll ruin it.”
Her voice cracked. “You already did.”
He reached out—
She almost let him—
But no. Not yet.
“You don’t get to say that now,” she whispered, stepping back. “Not when I needed you then.”
And she vanished (jutsu). Again.
This time… he couldn’t chase her.
