'The Ox' is a story written by H E Bates. It tells about the struggle and, sacrifices of Mrs. Thurlow. Working hard from dawn to dusk, she tried to save money for the better future of her two sons. But later they refused to stay with her. Mrs. Thurlow has been portrayed as a lady of hard work, and the pressure/load of work she had symbolises an OX, a beast of burden.
