Lua filters always follow the same three steps:
1️⃣ Find the target element
2️⃣ Do as little Lua work as possible to assemble arguments for a Typst function
3️⃣ Stick those arguments into a Typst function and pass the corresponding code off to Typst
And the cool part: It’s only this transition from Quarto to Typst that’s troublesome. Inside Typst, you have access to the vast sea of extensions that do a lot of heavy lifting for you.

I really, really, really love the idea of brand.yml. But I try to avoid it as much as possible 😭
The abstraction layer behaves unexpectedly whenever I try to use it in any way that is not demonstrated in the demo examples. Unfortunately, that happens all the time when I create Quarto templates for clients.
Instead, I go down the slightly more tedious but straightforward way of letting Typst create a theme for PDF outputs and CSS a theme for HTML outputs.

If you want to create beautiful PDF reports you need Typst. Even if you're a Quarto user. After all, Quarto passes the content off to Typst which then creates the PDF.
My upcoming Quarto + Typst workshop will focus on the concepts that glue Quarto, Typst and HTML output together.

Good news: Yes it works.
