π¨ If your baby scoots on their bottom instead of crawling β please watch this.
Most parents think it's adorable.
As a Pediatric Physical Therapist, it's one of the first things I look for.
Bottom shuffling can be a sign that your baby is avoiding weight through their arms and legs β and that's something worth paying attention to early.
The good news? Early awareness means early action.
I just dropped a video breaking down exactly what bum shuffling is, why it matters, and what you can do about it at home.

π§Έ PT-Approved Toys for Your 9β12 Month Old
Not all toys are created equal β and as a pediatric physical therapist, I get asked THIS question all the time:
"What toys should I actually be buying right now?"
Here's what I look for at this age ππΎ
β Push toys with a weighted base β helps your baby practice standing and early stepping without tipping over
β Stacking rings and cups β builds fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem solving
β Soft balls in different sizes β encourages reaching, grasping, and crossing the midline of the body
β Board books β yes, even at this age! Turning pages builds finger strength and early cognitive development
β Shape sorters β challenges your baby's brain in the best possible way
β What I'd skip? Anything that does the work FOR your baby. If it lights up, sings, and moves on its own β your baby is just watching. Not learning.
The best developmental toy at 9β12 months is still floor time with YOU. Simple objects, your attention, and space to explore.

Most parents think helping their baby learn to sit means propping them up in a seat earlier. It actually does the opposite.
Sitting is not something you teach. It develops from the inside out β through tummy time, rolling, and floor play. When we skip those steps and prop babies up artificially, we rob them of the core strength they need to sit on their own.
The best thing you can do? Put your baby on the floor more. Not in a seat. Not in a bouncer. The floor.
My latest video breaks down exactly how sitting develops and what you can do today to support it the right way. Link in the description. π

Is your baby not pulling to stand yet? Their legs might just need some strengthening first. πͺ
Before babies can stand or pull up, they need leg strength β and you can help build that strength even before they're ready to bear weight.
Here are a few non-weight bearing exercises you can do with your baby lying on their back:
𦡠Bicycle Kicks
Gently move your baby's legs in a slow, cycling motion. This warms up the hips and gets those leg muscles firing.
𦡠Resisted Kicking
Place your hands flat against the bottom of your baby's feet and let them push against you. Most babies love this one β and it's a great way to activate the quads and glutes.
𦡠Leg Press Against a Surface
Hold your baby on your lap or lay them near a wall and let them push off with both feet. Same concept β resistance without full weight bearing.
𦡠Hip Bridges
Support your baby's feet flat on the surface and gently encourage them to push their bottom up. Even a small lift counts as a win.
These exercises are especially helpful for babies who:
βοΈ Aren't pulling to stand yet
βοΈ Have low muscle tone
βοΈ Seem "floppy" in their legs
βοΈ Are working on developmental milestones with a therapist
I walk through all of these in detail in my latest video β watch it here π

Is your baby straining, crying, or going days without a dirty diaper?
You're not imagining it β and you're not doing anything wrong. Baby constipation is one of the most stressful things to watch as a parent, especially when you feel helpless.
As a pediatric physical therapist, I get asked about this ALL the time. So I finally made a video breaking down the exact massage technique I recommend to parents β step by step, no guesswork.
Here's what you'll learn:
β Where to massage (most parents get this wrong)
β How much pressure to use
β How long to do it
β When massage ISN'T enough and it's time to call your pediatrician
π Watch it here: https://youtu.be/GvIcyf7ofMc

Spotted your baby sitting like this? π
It's called W-sitting, and while it looks harmless (even cute!), it can interfere with core strength, hip development, and balance skills.
The good news? Easy to fix with the right alternatives.
New video is up breaking down:
Why babies do this
What it does to their development
3 better positions to encourage instead
When to be concerned
Parentsβhave you noticed this? Let me know in the comments! π
