Hey everyone! I'm really bored so I thought I would share some of my tips and tricks that I use when I create audio swaps. This is going to be a combination of how exactly I create my audio swaps and some helpful insight that I've gained over the years.

The first part of making an audio swap is picking the song/dance. It doesn't really matter which one you want to start off with; most of the times I decided based on the comp I was making it for. There are two key components that you should always keep in mind when making audio swaps: tempo and emotion. I feel like a lot of people match up their tempos really well, but it is just as important to match the emotion of the song with the emotion of the dance. I will use an example of mine: My Big Brother x Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. If you don't know what the dance or song is about, they are very conflicting emotions. My Big Brother is happy and hopeful while Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus is very sad and depressing. Because these two have very different emotions, this swap was not the best as it's hard to imagine Lilliana and Brady smiling while dancing to such a sad song.

This brings me to my next piece of advice. If you feel like you are just not doing very well in comps or you want a simple (I shouldn't say simple, it's a little time-consuming) yet effective, matching the bpms of your song and dance is going to be your best friend. Bpm stands for beats per minute and every song has one, which you can find out with a quick search at songbpm.com. This is part of the reason why I chose to pair My Big Brother with Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, because they are both 70 beats per minute. This is going instantly improve your musicality. As soon as I started using this technique, I instantly started enjoying my swaps more and I started placing better in comps. I feel like no one really talks about this technique because it's not that common and it can take a while to find a song that matches the dance's bpm, while also matches the emotion and tempo. When you do find it, you are going to instantly see the improvement. I have an entire notes page in my phone of all the bpms I have collected over the past year so if you want me to share them, let me know :)

Once you have the song and dance, the hard part is over. I personally use iMovie to cut my music because it is the easiest and smoothest in my opinion. But when you're cutting your music, please make sure the song ends when the dance ends. At the end of the day, you are trying to make it look like the dancers are actually dancing to that song.


After I cut my music and export it, I will put it in Capcut to work on the effects and filters. It doesn't take long but it makes such a difference. I don't really know how to explain it over text but search up on TikTok how to make a video look clearer using CapCut and I promise you, it will make all the difference. Also, don't forget to add a watermark. There are so many tutorials on TikTok if you don't have one yet but adding a watermark just enhances your audience's experience. If you are going to put your video through both iMovie and Capcut, do it in the order I told you. I don't know if it's just my phone but from my experience, if you put it through Capcut and then iMovie, iMovie makes it a little laggy.
