🚨 WAKE-UP CALL: Tornado Season Doesn't Wait for Spring. 🌪️
Don't let the calendar fool you. While many think severe weather waits until April or May, historical data shows that February is the "start gun" for significant portions of the country.
Based on climatological averages, we are entering a critical transition period. The threat shifts away from the immediate coast and decisively INLAND into the heart of the Deep South, the Mississippi River Valley, and the Ohio Valley.
Here is the breakdown of the February historical risk map attached below:
🔴 THE "BULLSEYE" ZONE (Greatest Risk)
If you live in the deep red area, your active severe weather season essentially begins now. This zone sits right in the heart of "Dixie Alley," where warm Gulf air clashes with colder northern air.
States: Deep East TX, LA, AR, MS, AL, Western TN & KY, Southern IL & IN.
Cities in the crosshairs: #Houston, #LittleRock, #Memphis, #JacksonMS, #Birmingham, #Nashville, #Louisville.
🟠 THE EXPANSION ZONE (Significant Risk)
The ingredients for tornadoes come together with notable regularity in these surrounding areas during February.
Extends West to: Dallas/Fort Worth and Eastern Oklahoma.
Extends East to: #Atlanta, the Carolinas, and parts of West Virginia.
Extends North to: Central IL, IN, and OH.
⚠️ THE HIDDEN DANGER OF FEBRUARY:The most critical thing to remember about this month: February systems in the Southeast are notoriously fast-moving and often produce NOCTURNAL (nighttime) tornadoes.
Do not rely on seeing the sky turn dark. These storms strike while many are sleeping.
YOUR ACTION PLAN: STOP thinking it's too early for severe weather.
ENSURE you have multiple ways to receive warnings that WILL wake you up Weather Radio, phone alerts.
REMEMBER: This map shows historical averages. Any single weather system can bring significant danger outside these core zones. Always monitor your local NWS forecast.
👉 SHARE THIS MAP: Help your friends and family in these red zones realize that tornado season is knocking on the door.
