The Film Room Podcast

The highest grossing movie franchise ever has to be doing something well, right? Not according to many in the film community. These movies have been labelled as unwatchable and many think James Cameron is waisting years making these 🚮

The truth is these movies are an amazing achievement of movie making that push the industry forward and bring casual fans into theatres. The story is nothing we haven’t seen before, but there’s so much more to the experience of movies and the world building, scale, and visuals are top tier 👌🏽

Fire and Ash fails to do what the first 2 films were so great at, but overall this franchise gets way more hate than it deserves imo. What do you think? 🤔

Marty Supreme had an amazing marketing campaign from celebrities like Tom Brady, Steph Curry, and Bill Nye sporting jackets, Timothée Chalamet on dropping UK drill raps, and even standing on the sphere in Vegas. But is the movie actually worth watching? 🤔

It absolutely is! The chaotic plot is a roller coaster, Marty’s “can’t lose” mindset gets him in all sorts of trouble, and Josh Safdie’s style is all over this film. In our latest episode that just dropped we talk about what works and what doesn’t, how the writing never lets you relax, and relive some really funny moments 🎧

There are plenty of examples of best picture winners that dwindle off and fall out of the public mind. The difference here is that this one won 6 of them! 🏆

Films that clean up at the Oscars are almost always undisputably great and long lasting, so why did this one fail to do so? Basically, critics loved it but as more people watched it, it lost steam and veterans were killing it for its inaccuracies 🪖

Check out tomorrow’s episode where we dive into this movie discussing veteran’s comments, how the tension was built and held, where they didn’t go too dramatic, and much more! 🎧

Quentin Tarantino is trending right now for some weird takes but his filmography is undeniable. Great movie after great movie from a guy that never went to film school, just watched a ton of films and learned from the greats 🎬

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is currently in theatres so we have a discussion around volume 1 of the 2 part series in tomorrow’s episode. What’s your favourite Tarantino film? 🤔
