I’m planning out my next YouTube video right now, so I thought I’d share how I prep before I ever hit record. When I’m really in the groove, this is my process. (Sometimes I wing it—but this time I’m being intentional.)
I usually plan videos from two different research angles:
1. Search-based or trending topics
2. Community/Avatar questions and problems
Sometimes these overlap in one video, and sometimes they don’t.
This next video will be about YouTube consistency, since that was the top struggle the community voted on.
My first step is searching YouTube for keywords around that topic. I’m looking to see if it’s trending and whether there are videos performing really well that I can learn from.
For this one, nothing stood out as highly popular or “trendable,” so I decided to approach it as a problem-solution video specifically for my audience. No algorithm wave here—just addressing what people in my community actually need.
Now I’m digging into the exact language my ideal viewer uses:
their pain points, desired outcomes, and the phrasing that resonates.
At this point, I’ve got a solid working title and a thumbnail concept based on my research. I also pulled a list of hooks, and I’m narrowing down which one fits the YouTube consistency angle best.
That’s where I’m at in the planning process. Consider this Part 1—I’ll update you over the next couple of days as I keep moving forward.
