🦩 If you have been following my IG stories lately, you know I have been spending my evenings at the protests in Tirana. Every night after 7 PM by the Pyramid, thousands of people gather to stand up for their country's future.
🦩 For those watching from the outside, here is exactly what is happening and why it matters.
🦩 Right now, the government is attempting to hand over protected national parks and pristine public coastlines; specifically the Narta Lagoon and Sazan Island; to foreign luxury developers. What started as an environmental initiative to protect the flamingos has evolved into a massive, unified movement against government corruption.
🦩 The energy on the ground is incredibly moving. This is an incredible, peaceful movement bringing the entire city together. I’ve never felt so welcomed from a community, especially outside of my own home, it truly feels like we are doing this together.
🦩 As a foreigner living here, I believe we have a deep responsibility. Albanians welcomed us into their culture with unmatched hospitality. We cannot just enjoy the benefits of living here and look away when the community is fighting to protect their home.
