WHAT IS BELT TONG?
As we continue on our series "TONG SYSTEM " , We take a look at another type of Tong called BELT TONG.
BELT TONG As the name implies, make use of BELT instead of chain unlike chain tong. It is used for making up and breaking out of casing. It is rigged up with a load cell to monitor the torque in the drillers console during make up. It is rated for operations on 20inch to 36inch diameter casing. The Tong is adjusted by exchanging BELT to work different nominal sizes of casing.
Hence, there is need for proper training on the operational procedures on how to use the tool for make up and break out of casing.
