Weird load of the week comes out of Maine. A heat recovery steam generator, more than 683,000 pounds, nearly 220 feet long and 20 feet wide, left Jay on Sept. 29 for South Portland.

It was planned as a two-night trip. It finally rolled into South Portland on Tuesday, Oct. 6, a full week after it left, with utility crews lifting power lines so it could squeeze by. And it's the first of nine.

Truck stop trivia, straight from the Federal Highway Administration.

1) That tale about one mile in five of interstate having to be straight so planes can land? Myth. No law or rule ever required it.
2) There's no I-50, so nobody mixes it up with U.S. 50 running through the same states.
3) Federal law keeps interstate rest areas from selling food. Vending machines are the one exception.

Guess that's why we all know where the good diners are.

Miranda Lambert's country-disco record "Crisco" landed Oct. 2. Over in the Netherlands, Edwin Bos released "Achter in mijn truck," a Dutch trucker song about a driver raising his little girl in the cab (Sept. 25).

Out in Reno, Tesla started high-volume production of its electric Semi on Sept. 24, aiming for 1,000 trucks a week, per Transport Topics.
