Since we are at the end of pregnancy and infancy loss awareness month, I wanted to share some of the things that helped my family and I heal after miscarriage.
We lost our Baby John to miscarriage in June of this year. As with all grief, there are highs and lows. Some days we feel better and some days we don't. We always miss him and are looking for him in the little things.
This is a list of some of the most helpful things that I have found so far as I work through this grief and find some healing. If you are going through a miscarriage or similar loss, I hope you find some comfort in these ideas, too.

One of my son's favorite things to do is take pictures of the world around him. This results in a lot of pictures of walls, doors, and the floor, but there are also a lot of gems hidden in there.
1) Our new french press for our coffee. Our old coffee pot has been leaking and needed to go, so we ordered a french press to replace it. He was so excited to open the box and play with the packaging.
2) A picture of me. He takes photos of things that are treasures to him and it's so nice every time I make the list.
3) Our counter. We used the mortar and pestal to grind spices to make our home smell like Fall. I think he liked the experience so much he wanted a photo to remember it.
4) His bug field guide. He is obsessed with bugs and loves looking through this field guide to learn more about them. He's memorized every bug in the book at this point.
5) Our cat, Luca. Our cat has allergies and bites himself because he is itchy. Despite all of the struggles, he's very lovable and sweet to our son. Chip just loves him.
6) One of the bugs in his book. He likes to open it and take pictures of every bug in the book. He loves pretending to be this Giant Atlas Moth.
I love getting to see what my son finds most important in this world. His creativity gets to shine through when he is taking pictures. The beauty and innocence he finds in the world never ceases to amaze me. I hope he always finds such joy in the little things.

Some sweet peaceful moments as we soak in the last bits of summer and transition into Fall. It's getting quieter on the homestead. We're trying to make sure we take time to just exist together and enjoy the weather as it is that day. It's amazing what you notice when you slow down.

Sometimes, we make our walk a little more interesting by looking for a certain color. Today's color was white! Most things on our walk we see are green this time of year, so it's always exciting when we find a different color. Looking for a specific color also helps keep us engaged on the walk and helps ground us.
I take these walks for a few reasons.
1) Exercise. I don't have a gym membership or anything like that, so regular walks are the best way for me and my kiddo to get exercise (plus, it tires him out so he sleeps better 😉).
2) Grounding. I like to use the walks as time away from phones and distractions. We like to be present to really listen to the sounds of nature, see what animals and plants we can find, and get some fresh air. Choosing to take a walk when I feel myself getting overwhelmed has helped a lot.
Let us know if you take your own color walk! I can't wait to see what treasures you find!

Whispers of fall on the homestead. It may still be a million degrees here in the South, but the fruit trees are ready for the rest Fall and Winter provide. All of our fruit has finished producing for the year and they deserve a break now.
I'm ready for Autumn myself. The beginnings of chill in the air (we're supposed to be dipping down to the 60s next week!), the contemplative nature of the season, the colors. It all sounds so romantic right now.
I used to dread the colder months, but I've learned ways to embrace them and enjoy the rest. Fall and Winter are fun in their own way. I could never enjoy it by wishing it away. But, planning on some specific seasonal events like pumpkin patch outings, seasonal soups, and making my son's Halloween costume can make it so enjoyable.
I'm learning from nature. The fruit trees require the cold and embrace it. I might as well too.

An update on the peach trees! They are full of little baby peaches! We have yet to see how they will taste, but I'm seeing a lot of preserves, cobblers, and pies in our future.
We are still learning how to care for our fruit trees, but to see them full of life and no longer suffering brings my heart great joy and gives me encouragement that we are on the right path!

Happy Holy Week!
We were blessed to be able to spend time at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament yesterday to partake in the mercies of the Lord, namely confession and the stations of the cross.
It was a beautiful visit, but, as always, pictures can be deceiving. It was not a perfect visit. We do have a toddler who does not like to stay still, after all. This can lead to some meltdowns and interruptions in what once was a quiet and prayerful place.
However, even through the difficulties, God's mercy persists. When the very long confession line became wonky and we thought we would have to leave, everyone let us go ahead of them. When it was finally time to try our children's stations of the cross, no one else was around so our son could run around if he needed to.
And, perhaps the biggest mercy, when I tried to explain the sacrament of confession to our son, he very adamantly wanted his turn. While he is still too young to fully understand those graces, I will always do my best to bring him to the foot of the cross, no matter how challenging it is.
If we, as his parents, don't show him the love of God, who will?
I pray that this Holy Week is full of God's mercies for you and your families and that your little ones become more familiar with Christ's love every day. ❤️

Keep growing.
These are peach tree blossoms, and I am so happy to see them.
When we bought this property, we could not even see the peach trees because everything was so overgrown. When we found them, they were crying out for help after being neglected for so long. It was evident they had not produced any peaches in a while.
We did not know anything about peach trees, but we grew with them. We researched and pruned and prayed.
Now, every day we go outside, there are more of these beautiful blossoms. Time will tell if these blossoms become peaches this year. But, it's clear they are healthy again. They are no longer bleeding. They have room to grow.
This past year with this property has stretched us in many ways. We have had to grow and adapt and learn new things every day. We knew it would be a challenge. This growth has not been easy, but it has been oh so fruitful.
I'm grateful to see that some of our labor is paying off. I can't wait to see where our property takes us this year
