Update on IAF AN-32 Crash | Assam

The Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam. All five personnel on board were killed in the accident.

The deceased have been identified as:

• Squadron Leader Prashant Singh
• Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar
• Sgt Jitendra Sharma
• Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat
• Agniveervayu Danish Alam

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Today in History | PAF F-86F Sabre Legacy

On 13 June 1956, Pakistan Air Force entered a new era with the induction of the F-86F Sabre under the US Military Assistance Program. A total of 102 aircraft were delivered, replacing older platforms like the Hawker Sea Fury and Supermarine Attacker, and becoming the backbone of PAF fighter strength.

The Sabre was a highly agile and powerful jet, armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and capable of carrying rockets, bombs, and later Sidewinder air-to-air missiles — significantly enhancing Pakistan’s air combat capability.

A defining moment came on 10 April 1959, when Flt Lt M. Yunis achieved PAF’s first aerial kill by intercepting and downing an Indian Air Force Canberra bomber, marking a major shift in air defence credibility.

During the 1965 and 1971 wars, the Sabre proved its combat effectiveness in multiple engagements. Most famously, Sqn Ldr M. M. Alam achieved the legendary “Ace in a Day” by downing five Indian Hunters in under a minute — one of the most remarkable feats in aviation history.

The F-86F Sabre was retired in 1980, but its legacy continues as a symbol of professionalism, skill, and air power excellence in Pakistan’s military history. Today, it remains preserved in museums as a reminder of its historic impact.
