Our conservation partner, the Ocelot Working Group, is helping children discover the wild cats sharing their corner of the world! ๐Ÿ’š

In the Indigenous community of Santa Cruz del Bioto in ๐‰๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐จ, ๐Œ๐ž๐ฑ๐ข๐œ๐จ, children ages 8โ€“13 joined an environmental education workshop to learn about the regionโ€™s small wild cats and their importance in the ecosystem.

๐Ÿ“ธ They explored how camera traps work.
๐ŸŽจ Drawing activities brought food chains and predatorโ€“prey relationships to life.
๐ŸŒณ Each child planted a native amapa tree in a symbolic reforestation activity.

Meanwhile, the teamโ€™s camera traps continue to record wild cats nearbyโ€”a reminder of why this ongoing work with local communities matters.

Earlier this year, the Ocelot Working Group also held pet vaccination and neutering campaigns in the community, extending their conservation efforts beyond the forest and into everyday life.

Found from southern Canada through much of the United States and into Mexico, bobcats help keep populations of rodents, rabbits, and other prey in balance. Although bobcats are classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, local populations can still face serious threats. ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  them now helps keep this familiar wild cat thriving for generations to come.

๐Ÿ’š Conservation starts with making room for wildlife. Protecting habitat, connecting wild spaces with wildlife corridors, creating safer road crossings, and studying bobcat populations all support their future.

Found ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐ž๐จ, this elusive wild feline is one of the ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ญ-๐ค๐ง๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ญ-๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ž๐ cats in the world. So rarely seen in the wild, much of what scientists know about it has come from camera traps and a small number of confirmed observations.

The Borneo bay cat usually has a rich reddish-brown coat, though some individuals appear more grayish, and it has a relatively long tail compared to its body.

It lives in dense tropical forests, where its secretive nature makes it incredibly difficult to study. Because of this, every photo and confirmed sighting helps researchers better understand this mysterious cat.

Like many forest-dependent species, the Borneo bay cat faces ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ก๐š๐›๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐š๐ ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, making protection of Borneoโ€™s remaining forests essential to its survival.
