As China seeks to race ahead in humanoid robot development, its supply chains showcased cheaper and innovative parts at the World Robot Conference in Beijing, but some executives warn the industry has yet to improve product reliability.
Wisson Technology (Shenzhen), known for its flexible robotic manipulators, doesn’t depend on motors and reducers - transmission devices commonly used in robotics - but instead uses 3D-printed plastics and relies on pneumatic artificial muscles to power its robots.
This less expensive form of production allows it to price its flexible arms at about one-tenth that of traditional robotic arms, said Cao Wei, an investor in Wisson through venture capital firm Lanchi Ventures, in which he is a partner.
Pliable technology will usher in robotic arms at a cost of around 10,000 yuan ($1,404), Wisson said on its website.

Kuwait’s state oil giant on Monday announced a 15-year deal for the supply of natural gas from Qatar, without disclosing the cost of the agreement.
QatarEnergy will supply three million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) a year under the deal, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) said in a statement.
“This second long-term agreement with QatarEnergy within a short period confirms our longstanding collaboration,” KPC chief executive Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Sabah said.
Kuwait struck a similar deal with the state-owned Qatari energy firm in 2020.
Sheikh Nawaf added that the deal would “provide a cleaner source of energy”, in line with Kuwait’s long-term strategy for the energy transition.
Since mid-June, oil-rich Kuwait has imposed power rationing in several residential and industrial areas to cope with rising electricity consumption during the summer heat.
Under the new deal, LNG deliveries to Kuwait’s Al-Zour refinery are scheduled to begin in 2025, KPC said.

After calling off a two-week-long sit-in against inflated power tariffs and agreements with IPPs earlier this month, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Monday announced to observe a nationwide shutter-down strike to push the federal government to announce relief measures for the masses.
Baloch, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad today, said that the trader community made a unanimous decision to observe a nationwide strike against inflation, high electricity prices, and imposition of hefty taxes.
He warned that any attempt by the government to stop the strike would push the country into anarchy.
The politico reminded that his party staged a 14-day protest in Rawalpindi and held negotiations with the federal government. The ministers had signed an agreement after accepting the JI's demands for providing relief to the inflation-hit nation earlier this month.
He added that a one-month deadline was set to review the contracts with independent power producers (IPPs) in the agreement. The JI naib emir demanded the government to implement the agreement.

Shell Pakistan Announces Financial Results for H1 2024
The Board of Directors of Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL) announced half-year results for the company. The company posted a profit after tax of Rs. 1.3 billion compared to the profit after tax of Rs. 3.5 billion made in the same period last year.
In October 2023, Shell Petroleum Company Limited entered into a Share Purchase Agreement with Wafi Energy LLC (the Acquirer) for the sale of its entire shareholding in SPL, which is currently under progress. In April 2024, an Addendum to the above was posted on PSX to reflect a change in the capital ownership structure of the Acquirer, where Wafi Energy Holding Limited replaced Wafi Energy LLC as ‘Acquirer’.
On July 27, 2024, a Public Announcement of an Offer to further acquire up to 24,162,179 ordinary shares representing 11.29% was made by Arif Habib Limited on behalf of Wafi Energy Holding Limited. The completion of the transaction is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals, completion of legal requirements, and satisfaction of other closing formalities.
During the period, SPL maintained its market share through relatively stable macroeconomic conditions. The inflation rate eased to 12.6% in June, down from a peak of 30% in December last year. The period also witnessed a relatively stable exchange rate.
