FAO PLO in the Republic of Korea is planning something special for FAO and World Food Forum this year. Last year, we achieved good attention across the globe due to FAO Korea's innovative initiative. The event ranked third after China and headquarters regarding the view. FAO PLO Republic of Korea aims to achieve the SDGs and ensure that no one is left behind through collaboration with the government, IGOs, NGOs, youth, women, and indigenous peoples who will work together for a better future by contributing to the agro-food system.

As FAO Director-General QU Dongyu said, ‘’ We urgently need to do things differently and act holistically to transform our agro-food system, and youth should be in the driver’s seat when it comes to decisions about the present and future. Together, we can tackle the challenges we face and transform agri-food systems to make sure no one is left behind."

During the World Food Forum Flagship Event last year, the FAO PLO in the Republic of Korea organized a satellite event, and the season title was "Walk the Talk on 4 Betters." This aligns with the FAO vision of four better things: "better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind." It was unconventional in style, with video clips and on-site talks beyond the conventional PPT presentation. The most interesting part was "Fun Ground."

FROM 254 USD IN 1970 TO THE WORLD'S 11TH-LARGEST ECONOMY

It’s been more than a half-century since South Korea moved from traditional agriculture to smart agriculture because, around a half-century ago, the country had a severe food shortage. Furthermore, only 22% of the land is arable, whereas agriculture covers 17% of the land area. Regarding production in this small country (100,339 km2, 38,741 mi2), South Korea ranks third in persimmon, fourth in cabbage, seventh in strawberry, 13th in onion, 12th in fisheries, and 15th in rice production in the world.

It’s high time to show the world that it has not been an easy road to success. You need a good leader and good people who are hard workers, dedicated and diligent, honest, and optimistic.
LDCs can learn a lot from K-Agriculture about how to become self-sufficient in the Argo-food sector, also, how K-Agriculture adopted climate-resilient agriculture and balanced food distribution to all citizens equally.
