James Tavernier has broken his silence on last night's events at Ibrox, calling the last 24 hours 'the most difficult and emotional' of his career.

In a statement released via Instagram, Tavernier says, "the version of events presented publicly did not reflect conversations that had taken place beforehand".

He adds that initially he was due to miss Wednesday's game due to an injection, but delayed the procedure to play one final game at Ibrox.

Tavernier adds that he told Danny Rohl he wanted to lead out his team one more time - with his children as mascots.

He adds that while he could've reacted better to being told he wouldn't start, he felt "deeply hurt and let down" by the decision.

The Rangers Review

"Sometimes when you speak to people about this they say 'Ah, the Scottish league it's not too big or too good'. But I explain how big and how worldwide it is, that you can only know and feel it as a player when you arrive there.

"When my family and friends visited me across the two years and came to the stadium, went to the bars, they would say to me 'This is not normal, this is crazy, something we've never seen before. A different level.' In those terms, Rangers is different.

"Even if you try to stay cool and say no, the club will pull you in. I think that's the beautiful thing about Rangers. You have to go through it and it will push you down, but it will also pull you up again. Those are the things that I will remember forever in my career and in my life after my career.

"OK, now I play in green. But [when you play for Rangers], you start hating green. You don't even want green things in your house anymore.”

Cyriel Dessers thought Feyenoord would prepare him for Rangers - but Ibrox is different.

The Rangers Review

The mentality question will remain at Rangers until it is answered by winning.

This squad still needs a core of dependable players to build around, depend on and get them through the tough moments.

Rangers were in control at half-time last night - but so quickly, Hearts wrestled back the momentum to end their season. The drop off was both alarming and predictable.
