I’m terrible at Sonic CD’s special stages, so naturally, I suck at Mania’s too. But I love Blue Spheres, so having it as Mania’s bonus game was awesome.

But in Mania Plus, once you gold all Blue Spheres stages, bonus games switch to pinball instead, which is way more shallow. You can still play Blue Spheres from the main menu, but in the main game, the only way to see it again is by resetting your medal progress. It sucks that you can’t just enjoy Blue Spheres in a normal playthrough and cycle through completed levels anymore. It made Mania feel less perfect.

Encore Mode was an okay tradeoff—I love color swaps, Mighty is fine, but Ray is amazing. Still, messing with Blue Spheres hurt the original experience.
