Glushkov Modelling

Channel is dedicated to both of my hobbies: Rc-helicopters and ship modeling.

A new part of the Santa Maria 1:65 build log has been published on the website (www.glushkov-modelling.com/builds/santa-maria#part…, focusing on the masts, yards, and standing rigging. This update covers the construction and installation of the main spars, as well as the preparation and fitting of the ship’s shrouds and stays. #amati #santamaria #shipmodel #scalemodel

AI Hub is now available
Glushkov Modelling has launched the AI Hub — a new section that helps AI assistants connect to the public Glushkov Modelling MCP server. The hub includes connection guides for supported platforms, along with answers to common questions and troubleshooting advice. Once connected, an AI assistant can help explore the archive, find build-log entries, locate tutorials and gallery material, and link back to the original pages. The MCP server uses a public OAuth connection flow, so no API key is required for regular access.

Two new tutorials have been added to the workshop notes section. Sails making — sequence and techniques for making and installing sails. Gluing — how to choose the right adhesive for your needs: an overview of bonding techniques and their specifics.

So here they are, the postponed but necessary things – the stand for the model, the rudder, and a pair of anchors :) I made the stand from whatever I had at hand – there happened to be some oak boards nearby… And yes, oak is harder to work than walnut, even though technically walnut is harder. #amati #santamaria #shipmodel #scalemodel #boat

And so, at last, the hull may be declared ready for the stepping of the masts and the installation of the standing rigging. Part III of the build log is now available on the website: www.glushkov-modelling.com/builds/santa-maria#part….
There are still a few ornamental details yet to be fitted — such as the shields for the sterncastle, along with the rigging of the ship’s boat and the guns — but these will be dealt with at the very end. Looking ahead, I can already say that the shields themselves are finished and have been beautifully painted by the golden hands of t.me/Maria_Caitlin
Meanwhile, we will make and install on deck five ladders, the pump, the bitts, door frames and handles, window frames, the surrounds of the gunports and hawse ports, the windlass, the main hatch, and other fittings. On the outside, the channels and chainplates will be set in place, and then the hull can be treated with oil — this is best done before the masts are stepped.
For now, there is a series of photographs available; a short video is still in progress, and a full horizontal video will follow in due course. #santamaria #amati #shipmodel #scalemodel

After completing the deck planking, I moved on to installing the quarterdeck bulwarks, as well as the bulwarks of the forecastle and the sterncastle, and to fabricating and fitting the covering boards along the ship’s sides. With these elements in place, the carrack’s silhouette is already becoming recognizable. However, the rigging stage is still a long way off – first I need to finish detailing the hull and decks. #columbus #boat #shipmodel #santamaria #scalemodel #amati #shipmodel

We begin crafting the main deck. As with the hull planking, individual boards are used, this time with a thickness of 1 mm. Special care is taken to align the edges precisely so that the joint between the two deck halves remains invisible once installed.
To enhance realism, the deck is subtly aged using a dark paste followed by light sanding. A short video is coming on weekend. #amati #santamaria

Hull planking is now largely complete: both stem and keel are fully planked, and the tops of the frames have been cut away. In their place I will later fit the stanchions for the bulwarks, but first I need to design, build, and install the deck – a story for another post. #amati #santamaria #shipmodel #scalemodel

A long “almost finished” phase is starting for the hull :) The main planking is done, but unfortunately the keel and stems are not separate built-up pieces – they are just part of the original plywood frame. So they will need to be planked as well next time. For now, here’s about 95% hull readiness in the photos. #santamaria #amati #scalemodel #shipmodel
