Cutting Concepts is an explainer and essay channel that examines the art, craft, and theory of editing and cutting-edge entertainment, along with *occasional* deep dives into media philosophy and industry inner workings.
Oh, and I'm Jack, by the way. This channel is built on my love of editing, exceptional content, and the video essay. Feel free to peruse as much as you like, and I hope you enjoy what you find.
Cutting Concepts
Hello everyone!
Firstly, whoa, what a milestone! 10,000 people is truly an incredible amount of people, and I’m grateful that all of you have decided to stick around and watch the videos I make in my little corner of YouTube.
Secondly, speaking of those videos, it’s been a minute! Long story short, I got a full-time position editing last September, and I love it, but it takes up a lot of time and energy that I want to dedicate to editing. Put another way, it’s hard to clock out of 8 hours of editing, open a different project and then edit a video essay about editing一who could have predicted that?
But I absolutely do want to return to making videos here, and as I’ve settled into a routine at work, that may happen sooner rather than later (no promises, though, mostly just hoping this is true.)
Once again, thanks for watching, and keeping cutting!

Cutting Concepts
Hello everyone!
It seems there’s a few people watching this channel now, so I thought I might do an update on what you all can expect from this channel:
- The goal is to make and post a video every 2 weeks, or at least twice a month.
- The channel is still very much in it’s experimental phase, so expect to see content varying in different styles and subjects.
- Editing is very much my niche, but I do plan to do some essays on general media analysis, so look forward to some of that.
And lastly, I am an editor, a job that mostly involves being alone in front of a computer for days on end, so you’ll have to bear with me as I get used to all this community stuff.
And of course, thank you all for watching!
