Origin & Significance of Mungmung Festival
What is Mungmung?
Mungmung—also spelled Mongmong—means “Togetherness Forever.” It is the most significant festival of the Sangtam Nagas, observed from September 1st to 6th every year .
Spiritual & Agricultural Roots
Held as a pre-harvest celebration, Mungmung is deeply intertwined with agricultural rhythms. It centers on worship of Lijaba, the Supreme Being, to seek blessings for a bountiful harvest, prosperity, and longevity .
The festival symbolically marks the separation of the spiritual realms—between the living and the deceased—helping the community leave behind ancestral sins and misfortunes .
Ritual Journey Through Six Sacred Days
Each day of this six-day festival carries its own rituals and communal significance:
1. Day I – Jangshika: Closure of all agricultural transactions; villages prepare provisions (firewood, vegetables, livestock) for the festival .
2. Day II – Singkithsa: Water fetching is forbidden until the eldest woman performs the first scoop, followed by slaughtering animals for feasting .
3. Day III – Müsüyangtüp: The eldest woman offers sticky rice and meat to the three hearth-stones, believed to represent Lijaba, before any food is consumed .
4. Day IV – Kikhalangpi: Community cleaning of paths to wells and fields, followed by feasting, folk dance, and traditional games .
5. Day V – Shilang Wuba Nyumong: Exchange of visits, gifts, and meals among neighbors, strengthening community bonds .
6. Day VI – Aka Singkithsa / Achangka Singkithsa: Harvesting resumes; nettle leaves (Throngba) are placed on walls and roofs to drive away evil and sickness .
Cultural & Social Significance
Cultural Continuity: Despite Christianization, Mungmung has retained its core rituals and even helps revive traditional beliefs and folklore, passing them onto newer generations .
Unity & Forgiveness: The festival is also a time to strengthen unity through forgiveness and reconciliation—making it a deeply communal and spiritually healing occasion .
Spiritual Engagement: Ritual offerings and reciprocal social practices serve as both spiritual observance and social cohesion—invoking divine blessings and reinforcing community ties .

📍Longwa village under Mon district & Pangsha village under Noklak district Nagaland.
✅A Firm Stand Against the Free Movement Regime (FMR) in Nagaland:
The idea of a Free Movement Regime (FMR) in Nagaland is not only misguided but dangerous to the peace, unity, and stability of the region. At a time when we need progress, development, and cooperation, calls for separatism threaten to undo decades of hard-earned harmony.
Nagaland is an integral part of India, and its strength lies in being part of a larger democratic and sovereign nation. The path forward is not through division, but through dialogue, development, and empowerment of our communities within the constitutional framework.
Instead of pursuing a divisive agenda, I call on the government to invest in what is already working: the village guard system in border areas such as Longwa and Pangsha. These local protectors have proven their commitment to peace and order. With proper support and recognition, they can be a powerful force for stability and security.
We must reject any movement that seeks to tear apart the fabric of our nation. True progress comes from unity, not separation.

As a concerned citizen, I stand with the youth of Nagaland who are demanding justice and fairness. Backdoor appointments are a direct insult to their hard work and aspirations.
''I strongly condemn the backdoor appointments in the Nagaland government. This practice is unjust, corrupt, and a betrayal of the youth who work hard and compete fairly for government jobs. Transparency and meritocracy must be upheld."
The future of our youth cannot be compromised by favoritism and nepotism. I urge the authorities to immediately put an end to this unethical practice and ensure that all appointments are made purely on the basis of merit.
