Today was a terrible day...

I hadn’t gone to school at all since the summer break ended on June 10. My mom convinced me to go to school since I was staying home and missing my classes, so I went today. At first, everything seemed normal. The school was just like it always was.

I study in a private school, so once we enter the campus, we aren’t allowed to go outside until school ends. I went in, and things were fine until the second period. I was sitting on the last bench with a few people I know when we suddenly started hearing yelling and arguments from outside the window.

Our subject teacher got up to see what was going on. She went to the office and came back later, talking about a kidnapping that had happened in the school area—but not inside or too close to the school. I didn’t understand why all the teachers were warning us to be careful and stay safe.

Distraction: I saw a guy I had never seen before. I thought that house was empty, but apparently not. I wanted to show my friend, but the guy didn’t come out again 😭. So I told her that when school ended, we could go check it out. At first, she was hesitant, but then she agreed. We decided to go after school since the house was right behind our school. I had seen the guy from the school window during lunch, so it wouldn’t take more than a few minutes to go there and then head to our cars.
Distraction over.

When it was time to leave, I noticed something odd—the main gate wasn’t open yet, even though it usually opens before we leave our classes. People were standing on the field, and our PT teacher was calling out students’ names, which he never does for us since we’re teens. He usually only does that for the 6th and 7th graders.

I was planning to go with my friend, as you read, but when I got downstairs, I saw my driver standing there—and my friends’ drivers too. I said, “Okay, I have to go. Sorry, next time we will… man, this sucks. Bye.” Then I went to my driver and asked if the car was broken, because he usually waits for us outside, but today all the drivers were inside the field.

He said, “No, but your dad came to pick you up.”

I was confused because my dad never comes without telling me first. I just said, “Okay.” But when I stepped outside, I saw news reporters, police, and media vans all around the school. The driver brought me to my dad, and I got on the back of his bike to go home.

On the way, he told me, “You don’t need to ever go to that school again.”
He never says things like that—if he does, it’s usually in a joking or casual way. But this time, his eyes looked dead serious.

I asked, “What about my exams? I’ve come so far, and I only have a few years left to finish school.”
He replied, “You can, but not now. We’ll talk about it later.”

He kept driving, but I couldn’t stop myself from asking, “Why? Dad, what happened?”
He said, “I’m surprised you don’t know. A kid was kidnapped right in front of your school. Their parents are fighting with the school, and that’s why the police, reporters, and media are all there.”

I didn’t say anything after that. He asked if I was hungry, but I said no.

It was a horrible experience. I usually go out around the school area with my friend and her group, but today I didn’t feel like it. Just imagine if I had gone with them… I usually hang out for a while and then leave by myself. What if… sigh

I won’t be going to school for a while now.
