SDM Zanskar launches Sampoornta Abhiyan in Karsha block at -19°C

Zanskar, February 04, 2026: Sampoornata Abhiyan 2.0 under the Aspirational Block Programme, an initiative of NITI Aayog, was formally launched at Karsha Block, Zanskar. The Abhiyan is being implemented for a defined campaign period from 28 January 2026 to 14 April 2026, with a focused and time-bound approach towards saturation of key development indicators.

The public launch was held on 2 February 2026 under the ABP-Block Karsha, and was formally launched by Sh. Omkar Rajendra Gundage, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar, despite extreme climatic conditions with the temperature dipping to –19 degree Celsius.

The launch event was attended by Sub-Divisional level officers, officials associated with the Aspirational Block Programme, frontline workers, Nambardars, PRI representatives including former BDC members of Karsha, and a large gathering from the general public of Karsha Block.

Sampoornata Abhiyan 2.0 aims to achieve 100 percent saturation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in a time-bound manner across priority sectors such as Health & Nutrition, Agriculture & Allied Sectors, and Education, through enhanced community participation, awareness generation, and convergence of departmental efforts.

During the event, an introductory briefing on the objectives, indicators, and implementation strategy of the Abhiyan was presented by the BDO, Karsha. This was followed by sector-wise briefings from the concerned Nodal Officers of line departments, who sensitized frontline workers and participants regarding their respective roles and targets.

While addressing the gathering, the SDM, Zanskar emphasized the importance of Sampoornata Abhiyan 2.0 in strengthening last-mile service delivery and directed all line departments to actively engage in field-level activities to ensure effective outreach to every eligible beneficiary. He also congratulated the entire Karsha Block team for their outstanding performance in securing the top position in the Delta Ranking of NITI Aayog, and expressed his gratitude to the general public, PRI members, and all stakeholders for their continued cooperation and collective efforts.

The successful launch of Sampoornata Abhiyan 2.0 reflects the strong commitment of the district administration, field functionaries, and the community towards achieving inclusive, accountable, and outcome-driven development in Karsha Block.

Shinkula Pass Reopens Today, Bringing Relief to Travelers and Border Regions

After days of heavy snowfall and intense cold conditions, Shinkula Pass has officially reopened today, thanks to the relentless efforts of the road-clearing teams working in extreme winter weather.

A group of BRO (Border Roads Organisation) and support personnel can be seen in the photo celebrating the successful reopening amidst snow-covered terrain and freezing temperatures. Bundled in heavy winter gear and standing beside snow-clearing machinery, the team appears cheerful despite the harsh environment, highlighting the spirit and dedication involved in restoring connectivity.

The reopening of Shinkula Pass is expected to restore vital movement for locals, security forces, and emergency services, which had been temporarily halted due to severe weather. Officials reported that clearing operations involved continuous snow removal, coordination of multiple heavy machines, and round-the-clock manpower.

Authorities advise travelers to remain cautious as temperatures remain low and weather conditions may change rapidly.

The reopening marks a significant step in maintaining year-round connectivity for high-altitude regions and ensuring essential supplies and transportation routes remain functional.

Zanskar Conducts Full Dress Rehearsal for 77th Republic Day at Padum

Zanskar, January 24, 2026: In preparation for the upcoming 77th Republic Day, a grand full dress rehearsal was successfully conducted today at the Sports Stadium, Padum.

The ceremony commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Tehsildar of Zanskar, Mr. Mohd Hassan, who proceeded to take the salute in the presence of various Sub-Divisional level officers and dignitaries.

The event featured a spirited March Past led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Tsering Namgail. The parade saw enthusiastic participation from several contingents, including: Ladakh Police, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Students from various Government, Private Schools and Tuition Centres.

Following the parade, the atmosphere was further enlivened by a vibrant cultural program. Students and members of the Folk Singer Association of Zanskar delivered captivating performances, showcasing a seamless blend of traditional folk music and modern songs.

The rehearsal drew a large crowd of local residents, reflecting the patriotic fervor and community spirit of the region ahead of the main celebrations.

The Zanskar Winter Sports Foundation (ZWSF) has extended heartfelt congratulations to young ice skaters Stanzin Khando and Stanzin Kunzin for their historic achievements at the Khelo India Winter Games, bringing immense pride to the Zanskar region.

In an official congratulatory message issued from its headquarters at Munskit Chumik, Padum, the Foundation lauded the athletes for their outstanding performances in figure skating. Stanzin Khando, Daughter of Lobzang Konchok from Langmi, Zanskar, secured a Silver Medal, while Stanzin Kunzin, Daughter of Kelsang Tsokfal from Karsha, Zanskar, clinched the Bronze Medal, marking a significant milestone for winter sports in the region.

REEWA Stongday Organizes Thrilling Zanskar Winter Volleyball Tournament

Zanskar, Ladakh: REEWA Stongday successfully organized the Zanskar Winter Volleyball Tournament, which concluded on a high note with an exciting final match that showcased exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

In a closely contested final, NTZ Zangla B emerged victorious by defeating the Kartsog STARA team, thrilling spectators with a nail-biting finish. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 20 teams across the region, highlighting Zanskar’s growing passion and talent for volleyball.

Stanzin Zangla was adjudged Man of the Tournament in recognition of his outstanding performance throughout the competition.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, SDM Zanskar, IAS Omkar Je, who lauded the organizers for their efforts in promoting sports and youth engagement in the region. Other dignitaries present included CDP Officer Zanskar, Mr. Gurmat, Physical Education Officer, Mr. Gatuk, along with several local officials and community members.

Day 2: Surprise Inspection of Government Offices in Zanskar

Padum, Zanskar | January 14, 2026:
In order to ensure punctuality, discipline, and the effective delivery of public services, a surprise inspection of various government offices was conducted today, 14.01.2026, under the directions of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar.

A committee headed by Sh. Mohd Hassan, Tehsildar, Zanskar, and comprising the Administrative Officer, ZDA, carried out inspections of different departments functioning within the Sub-Division.

During the inspection of the Office of the Block Veterinary Officer / Sheep Husbandry, Zanskar, it was found that only two staff members were present at the time of checking, while two officials were absent without authorization.

Similarly, during the inspection of the Animal Husbandry / LDO Office, Zanskar, only four paramedical staff members were found present. It was further observed that no clerical/ministerial staff is posted in the office, as the same has been attached at Kargil. This arrangement is adversely affecting routine office functioning and public service delivery.

The inspecting committee stressed the need for strict adherence to office timings, proper maintenance of attendance records, and ensuring that public services are delivered efficiently without inconvenience to the general public.

The concerned departments have been directed to submit explanations for the lapses observed. The Sub-Divisional Administration, Zanskar, has reiterated that such surprise inspections will continue in the future in the interest of accountability, transparency, and improved governance.

Surprise Inspection of Government Offices in Zanskar

Zanskar, January 13, 2026: On the directions of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar, a committee headed by Shri Mohd Hassan, Tehsildar, Zanskar, and comprising the Accounts Officer, ZDA, and the Block Development Officer, Zanskar, conducted a surprise inspection of various government offices today to assess punctuality, attendance, and the delivery of public services.

During the inspection of CHC Padum, the committee scrutinized attendance registers, verified leave accounts, inspected medical machinery, and took stock of medicines and other allied items available at the health facility. It was found that 34 staff members out of 109 were absent without authorization, indicating serious lapses in duty and adversely affecting public healthcare services.

In the PWD (Hydraulic) Division, Zanskar, it was observed that five non-technical staff members out of 18 were absent without authorization, and only three technical staff members were present at the time of inspection. The committee scrutinized the attendance registers and verified leave accounts. It was further found that no movement of technical or field staff had been recorded by the concerned Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs). This lack of documentation and supervision reflects clear negligence and imprudent administrative practices, severely undermining effective monitoring and service delivery.

Similarly, in the Rural Engineering Wing (REW), Zanskar, only a Junior Engineer was found present in the office. The committee checked the attendance records and leave position and noted that no movement or attendance of the AEE, Zanskar, had been recorded. The absence of proper documentation regarding official movement was viewed as a serious administrative deficiency.

The inspecting committee has taken a serious view of the widespread unauthorized absences and lack of proper record maintenance. A detailed inspection report has been submitted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar, for further necessary action under the rules.
