Four-Day Solar Training Programme Concludes Successfully at GDC Zanskar

Zanskar, August 01, 2026: The four-day Solar Training Programme, organized by Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar in collaboration with GHE from 28th to 31st July concluded successfully with a valedictory ceremony held at the college campus.

The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Amjad Ali, Principal, GDC Zanskar, who congratulated all the participants for successfully completing the training programme.

A total of 30 participants completed the four-day training, which focused on the fundamentals of solar energy systems and installation techniques. Based on their performance in the theoretical assessment, six participants were selected for an advanced 10-day hands-on training programme on on-ground solar installation at Askhow Village. In recognition of their outstanding performance during the training, they were presented with solar installation tool kits.

Dr. Amjad Ali distributed certificates to all the participants and appreciated the efforts of GHE for organizing such a meaningful skill-development programme in collaboration with GDC Zanskar. He emphasized the growing importance of renewable energy and expressed hope that the training would equip local youth with practical skills and create future livelihood opportunities.

Ms. Simar Kaur from GHE expressed her heartfelt gratitude to GDC Zanskar for its support and cooperation, which ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the programme. She also appreciated the enthusiasm and active participation of all the trainees throughout the four-day workshop.

The programme coordinator, Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, delivered the vote of thanks. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of GHE, the college administration, resource persons, and participants for making the programme a grand success. He expressed confidence that such collaborative initiatives would continue to empower the youth of Zanskar with skills relevant to sustainable development and the renewable energy sector.

DGP Ladakh Shri Anand Jain Makes Historic Maiden Visit to Zanskar, Inaugurates SSP Office and Interacts with Public Across the District

Padum, August 1: The Director General of Police (DGP), UT Ladakh, Shri Anand Jain, is on his maiden three-day official visit to Zanskar District, reaffirming the Ladakh Police’s commitment to community-oriented policing, improved public service, and stronger engagement with the people of the region.

During the visit, Shri Anand Jain inaugurated the newly established Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Zanskar, at Padum. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Zanskar, Shri Omkar Rajendra Gundage (IAS); SSP Zanskar Shri Rigzin Sandup; Zanskar Buddhist Association (ZBA) President Tsering Dorjay; Zanskar Gonpa Association (ZGA) President; President of the Lambardar Association; President of the All Zanskar Trade Alliance; former ZBA President; Councillor Stanzin Jigmath; Shri Mohd. Anwar Wani of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar; and representatives of the Taxi and Tempo Union, besides senior police officers, civil administration officials, media representatives, and members of the public.

Following the inauguration, the DGP held a public interaction programme at Police Station Padum, where he patiently listened to the grievances, suggestions, and concerns of local residents. Representatives of various organizations highlighted issues related to policing, public safety, traffic management, and the overall security needs of the district.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Anand Jain assured the people that the Ladakh Police remains committed to responsive, transparent, and people-friendly policing. He stated that every genuine public grievance would be given due consideration and that all possible efforts would be made to strengthen policing infrastructure, improve law and order, and ensure efficient police services across Zanskar.

The DGP also interacted with senior citizens, political leaders, religious leaders, media persons, and representatives of civil society, emphasizing that close coordination between the police and the community is essential for maintaining peace, harmony, and public confidence.

As part of his tour, Shri Anand Jain visited the iconic Gonbo Rangjon in Kargyak village, where he also visited the Tourist Check Post (TCP). During the visit, he interacted with residents of the Lungnak region and patiently listened to their grievances and concerns regarding policing, connectivity, public safety, and other local issues. He assured the people that the Ladakh Police would extend all possible support within its jurisdiction and continue to work closely with the administration to address their genuine concerns.

The DGP’s maiden visit to Zanskar is being widely welcomed as a significant initiative to bring senior police leadership closer to the people. His engagements across the district reflect the Ladakh Police’s vision of accessible, accountable, and community-centric policing while strengthening public trust and institutional outreach in the remote region of Zanskar.

The inaugural function was graced by Shri Omkar Gundage (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Rigzin Samdup (KAS), Superintendent of Police, Zanskar, as the Guest of Honour. The programme began with the traditional offering of khataks to the dignitaries and resource persons from GHE by Dr. Amjad Ali, Principal, GDC Zanskar, symbolizing respect and warm hospitality. Welcoming the gathering, Ms. Simar Kaur from the Global Himalayan Expedition delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the objectives, schedule, and hands-on activities planned during the four-day workshop. She also highlighted GHE's pioneering work in promoting clean energy and sustainable rural electrification across the Himalayan region, particularly in Ladakh. Karsha, Zanskar | July 25: His Eminence Kundeling Rinpoche held an inspiring interactive session with students and youth at Karsha New Photang, where he delivered a powerful message on moral values, education, and leading a meaningful life.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ven. Mingur Dorjay, President of Choskul Tsogpa Zanskar, who warmly welcomed His Eminence and all the participants.

The event witnessed the participation of a large number of students and young people from various schools and villages across Zanskar. The programme was also attended by Zanskar Buddhist Association (ZBA) President Tsering Dorjay and Zanskar Gonpa Association (ZGA) President, who graced the occasion as distinguished guests.

During the nearly two-hour interaction, Kundeling Rinpoche encouraged the youth to stay away from mobile phone overuse and drug addiction, emphasizing that such habits can negatively affect both personal growth and society. He urged students to respect their elders and teachers, cherish and care for their parents, and cultivate compassion, kindness, and love in their daily lives.

Highlighting the importance of education, Rinpoche advised students to remain dedicated to their studies, work hard towards their goals, and never lose hope in the face of challenges. He encouraged them to develop strong character, discipline, and perseverance as the foundation for a successful and meaningful future.

LADAKH TRIBUNE NEWS: Chuchot Nala Overflows After Stok River Breach, Crops Damaged; Residents Seek Immediate Official Response

Leh, July 24: A sudden rise in the water level of the Stok River led to flooding in the Chuchot Yokma Main Irrigation Nala after the river breached into the canal following a breakage on Thursday night, resulting in significant damage to agricultural fields and standing crops.

According to local residents, the canal became blocked, preventing the smooth flow of water and causing it to overflow into nearby areas. The floodwater reached close to residential localities, creating panic among villagers. However, no damage to houses or other private property has been reported so far.

The flooding has severely affected the agricultural sector, with extensive areas of cultivated land and standing crops reportedly inundated. Farmers have expressed concern over the losses and are awaiting an official assessment of the damage.

Officials from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department have been engaged in restoration work since Thursday night. Heavy machinery has been deployed to regulate the water flow, repair the breach, and restore the irrigation canal. The restoration operation was still in progress as of Friday morning.

Despite the ongoing efforts by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, local residents voiced disappointment over the absence of officials from other concerned government departments. They stated that no assessment team had visited the affected area till Friday morning to evaluate the losses or provide immediate relief.

Residents have urged the district administration and the concerned authorities to carry out an early survey of the damaged agricultural land, assess the crop losses, and provide timely compensation and necessary assistance to the affected farming community.

Authorities Settle Tower Site Dispute in Zanskar, Push for Power Project Completion

Zanskar, July 22, 2026: Hon’ble Executive Councillor, RDD, Forest & Information, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Sh. Punchok Tashi accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, Sh. Omkar Rajendra Gundage (IAS) and Councillor Sh. Stanzin Jigmath, Superintendent of Police Sh. Rigzin Sangdup (JKPAS),Tehsildar Zanskar Sh. Mohd Hassan, and officials of RECPDCL, visited the disputed sites at Shagar Yokma and Markim concerning the erection of Tower Nos. 2196 to 2199 and 2204 to 2205 under 220 KV Drass-Padum transmission line.

During the visit, discussions were held with the affected villagers, and the long pending grievances were successfully resolved. All the apprehensions of the concerned people were addressed by the Deputy Commissioner. Executing agencies were directed to immediately commence the pending work and expedite the erection of the transmission towers to ensure timely completion of the project.

The dignitaries also inspected the ongoing renovation works of the Haftal Power Project. The concerned engineers assured that the remaining work would be completed within ten days, and directions were issued to ensure early restoration of a reliable electricity supply to the people of Zanskar.

Stoth Area Action Committee Meets Key Stakeholders Over Demand for Three Tehsils in Stoth Region

Padum, Zanskar: The Stoth Area Action Committee (SAAC) held a series of meetings with prominent stakeholders to press for the long-pending demand for the creation of three tehsils in the Stoth region of Zanskar.

During the meetings, the committee highlighted the continued neglect of the Stoth area in the recent notification of new tehsils in Ladakh and urged the authorities to address the issue on priority. The committee emphasized that the creation of three tehsils is essential to ensure equitable development, strengthen administrative accessibility, and improve the delivery of public services in the region.

The delegation met with Shri Phunchok Tashi, Hon’ble Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil; Shri Omkar Rajendra Gundage, Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar; Shri Stanzin Jigmat, Hon’ble Councillor; and Shri Lobzang Namgyal, BJP President, Zanskar District.

All the stakeholders assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up at the highest level of the UT Administration and expressed their commitment to making sincere efforts to fulfill the genuine demand of the people of the Stoth region.

The SAAC delegation was led by Shri Nawang Tashi, Chairperson, and included Ven. Lama Tashi, Shri Tsering Namgyal, General Secretary, SAAC, and Shri Tashi Phunchok, Nambardar of Akshow.

The committee expressed optimism following the meetings and hoped that the long-standing demand for three tehsils in the Stoth region would receive favorable consideration from the competent authorities in the interest of balanced and inclusive development.

He emphasized that true happiness does not come from wealth or power but from achieving peace of mind through training the mind, developing warm-heartedness, and helping others.

Highlighting the importance of compassion, His Holiness encouraged young people to replace selfishness with altruism, describing it as “wise selfishness,” where caring for others ultimately brings peace and happiness to oneself. He further stressed that living with honesty and integrity helps reduce anxiety and fear while fostering stronger relationships within society.

His Holiness also underlined the need to train the mind through education, reflection, and regular practice to overcome negative emotions such as anger, hatred, and jealousy, replacing them with kindness, patience, and compassion.

Addressing the growing concern of drug abuse, His Holiness expressed deep concern over the challenges faced by some young people struggling with substance addiction. He described drug use as a destructive habit that causes suffering and commended those who have shown courage by seeking treatment and working toward recovery.
