Clarence Brooks and the Lincoln Motion Picture Company!
Noble and George Perry Johnson, along with Clarence Brooks, Dr. James T. Smith, and Dudley A. Brooks founded the Lincoln Motion Picture Company in 1916! The Company, which was the first African American Production Company, sought to produce films that showcased the talents of African American Actors, like Brooks, and showed they could play characters more complex than the stereotype roles they were often given in white produced pictures.
Brooks starred in A MAN’S DUTY and BY RIGHT OF BIRTH for the Company. It sadly was disbanded by 1923.
