Sri Lanka’s Beloved Tusker ‘Bathiya’ in Critical Condition After Falling Into a Lake 💔
In a heartbreaking incident this morning, Bathiya — a majestic and gentle tusker already under treatment for a leg injury — was found helplessly submerged in the Polpithigama lake by locals.
Despite urgent efforts by wildlife officers and the dedicated veterinary team led by Dr. Isuru from Nikaweratiya, early attempts to lift him using ropes sadly failed.
🚨 The situation grew more intense as limitations in scanning equipment made diagnosis difficult.
💪 However, through sheer determination and the help of mechanical lifting gear, Bathiya was finally brought to safety and is now under continuous medical care.
