Nearly three decades later, MUROYI lives again. 🇲🇼🇿🇼

In 1997, the late legendary Bright “Livewire” Nkhata and Makasu Band travelled to Zimbabwe to record Muroyi at Prince Tendai’s High Density Studios, with Sir Jai Banda supporting that historic journey.

This month, we came together with the legendary Sir Jai Banda of Entertainers Promotions, the versatile Makasu Band, the gifted Pon G and the unique Sameface Beats to reimagine and rework this massive classic for a new generation.

This one is personal too. My Mom loved this song.

We want to honour the original, keep the music alive and introduce MUROYI to newer and younger audiences. 🦅

Rest in peace, Sway Dasafo. 🕊️

This one hurts.

Back in 2010, I had the honour of working with Sway on “Focus.” It was my first international collaboration, at a time when I was still building my name and dreaming of taking Malawian Hip Hop beyond our borders.

Sway was already a giant in UK Hip Hop, a pioneer, a MOBO and BET Award winner, and an artist whose work inspired a generation. For him to share a record with a young Phyzix from Malawi was a massive moment for me and an important chapter in my journey.

16 years later, I will always be grateful that our paths crossed through music.

Thank you for the music, the inspiration and the history, Sway.

My deepest condolences to his family, friends and everyone who loved him.

Rest well, legend. 🕊️❤️
