Today in 1968, Led Zeppelin made their live debut, billed as the New Yardbirds, at the Teen Club in the town of Gladsaxe, Denmark.
"Standing by the side of the stage it was obvious that there was a special chemistry," said Peter Grant. While Robert Plant latterly observed: "I was very green and it was a tentative start, but we knew we had something."

Ronnie Rondell Jr, the American stuntman who was famously set on fire for the artwork of Pink Floyd’s album, Wish You Were Here, has died aged 88.

Rondell, who also appeared in Hollywood films such as Spartacus and The Karate Kid, and TV shows such as Charlie’s Angels, passed away on August 12th at a care home in Missouri, and is survived by his wife and son.

55 years ago today, Eric Clapton released his debut, self-titled solo album in the US.
With Cream and Blind Faith finished and Derek & The Dominos not quite ready for take-off, in August 1970 Eric Clapton released his self-titled first solo album.
Unassuming, blues-tinged and produced by Delaney Bramlett, it made the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic and established the template for Clapton’s next half-century. All the same, he was so unsure of his direction that he had it mixed three times.
