Welcome to the YouTube Channel for the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel to their families and the nation. DPAA was established January 15, 2015 and with this new agency, the Department of Defense is transforming the way we account for missing personnel for conflicts dating from World War II through the First Gulf War. DPAA integrates the former offices responsible for this work: the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO), and Life Sciences Equipment Laboratory (LSEL).

"An honorable commitment": The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific have partnered to identify the remains of U.S. servicemen killed in the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Recently, the remains of Herman Schmidt of Sheridan, Wyoming, were identified after more than 80 years through dental, anthropological, and DNA analysis. Gene Maestas, Public Affairs Specialist at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, says, "It truly is an honorable commitment to make sure that these individuals finally have closure. It's been a fantastic partnership that we have had with the POW/MIA Accounting Agency," "This partnership, basically from the inception of disinterring the USS Oklahoma unknowns, has really provided closure for many families."
