About me:
I'm an independent CAD software developer mainly focused on geometric modelling and computer graphics at their low-level aspects (hence, my main programming language is C++). I've been working for OPEN CASCADE for 12 years, where, among other things, I was conducting pieces of training and workshops.
About the channel:
Quaoar Workshop is a place where you can learn how to program computer graphics applications for the Computer-Aided Design field. This is a warm community of people sharing their knowledge and exchanging ideas. Our technology stack includes, but not limited with:
- OpenCascade: open-source geometric modelling kernel.
- VTK: open-source scientific visualization library.
- Analysis Situs: open-source CAD platform.
We prefer open-source solutions over commercial software packages and technologies, and this way we cultivate the community of independent software developers, engineers, and researchers.

Long time no see here. Meanwhile, we are preparing yet another release of Analysis Situs that is to see the light of day in December. I haven't published much about its new features, but here's a little one (the extraction of smoothly connected segments over a planar path): quaoar.su/blog/page/smoothly-connected-segments-ov…

The STEP translator is one of the strongest components of OpenCascade. It is very robust and provides a number of settings that allow you to fine-tune the behavior of the reader and writer. Back in 2012, I was working on adding the nonmanifold mode of import/export in the STEP translator demanded in CAE simulations. That was quite an exercise because back then we compiled everything using WOK (Workshop Organization Kit). Also, checking for regressions was a time-delayed process so even simple tasks could take several days to finish.
Now, in 2025, we came back to the code of the translator to add a couple of things that make it work faster (for specific cases). Here is the story: quaoar.su/blog/page/perforated-sheet-metals
Alongside these changes we forked OpenCascade and published our version here: opengeom.org/
This version would accumulate bugfixes that our team (the team behind Analysis Situs CAD software) finds critical.

Here is our new piece on the sheet metal unfolding algorithm (one of the tools that we've been developing for almost 10 years already and licensed to such big boys as Schneider and many others): quaoar.su/blog/page/on-sheet-metal-unfolding-part-…
This time, it's about the history of modification for feature mapping.

We finally published a transcript from our talk at the Computational Geometry workshop, which was sponsored by one huge Chinese company and held in 2022. I took time to add a long preamble and a bit of history for the tools we've been developing starting in 2015. The article is quite long but it has many pictures and should not be a hard read: quaoar.su/blog/page/maas-geometric-kernel
