Better late than never ! 30 years of absolute terror: Happy Anniversary, Resident Evil !
Exactly three decades ago, on March 22, 1996, the Japanese release of the first game changed the rules forever. What started as a small-scale experiment for the original PlayStation grew into a massive phenomenon that practically single-handedly forged the DNA of the survival horror genre.
The most ironic part of Resident Evil's history is how its signature oppressive atmosphere was born. Originally, Shinji Mikami envisioned a fully 3D first-person game, considering it the perfect perspective for horror. But the console simply couldn't handle the developers' ambitions: the visuals were falling apart, and the monsters looked ridiculous. They had to backtrack. At the time, Mikami considered the shift to static pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles a painful, forced compromise.
But it was exactly these technical workarounds that worked a miracle. Blind spots, the inability to peek around corners, slow pacing, and a constant lack of resources created that gold-standard feeling of vulnerability. Constraints birthed a masterpiece. Capcom hit the jackpot, and the game smashed all sales projections.
On a personal note: a special thanks to this legendary franchise for helping me finally lock in the direction for my channel and literally breathing new life into it ! ❤️
P.S. Fun fact: I'm turning 30 this year too, just like Resident Evil. This game and I are exactly the same age 😎

A one-minute video might seem simple, but it requires a lot of effort: from video editing (speed ramping, precise cuts) to deep audio processing. This includes noise cleanup, gain normalization, bass EQ, and crafting seamless transitions.

P.S. I was actually surprised by the original in-game audio editing, in some places, it’s quite harsh and abrupt. I’m doing my best to fix these "seams." It’s a clear reminder of how much voice acting hides the flaws of background music !

Казалось бы, ролик длится всего минуту, но за этим стоит огромный объем работы. Это и монтаж видео (динамичное изменение скорости, точечная обрезка) и конечно, глубокая работа с аудио: чистка от шумов и щелчков, нормализация громкости, тонкая настройка низких частот (Bass Boost) и создание бесшовных переходов.
На втором скриншоте, параметры мастер-файла для тех, кто разбирается в технической части.
P.S. К слову, был удивлен оригинальному монтажу аудио в игре. Местами он слишком резкий и рваный. Приходится исправлять это всеми доступными средствами. Именно в такие моменты понимаешь, насколько сильно голоса озвучки маскируют недостатки фоновой музыки. В «чистом» виде всё гораздо сложнее !
