On this channel, you will find beautifully crafted narrations of Paramahansa Yogananda's teachings, accompanied by moving audio effects that will help you fully immerse yourself in the teachings.
A liberated master such as Jesus need not depend on the natural way of returning to earth by the slow process of rebirth and growth into maturity. When one becomes Spirit, he can materialize a body and lock himself in it, then dematerialize it any time he chooses. If a person comes down a stairway and somebody locks the door behind him, he cannot go back up. But if he possesses the key, he can go up and come down as he pleases. So Jesus, having unlocked his soul from the physical, astral, and causal forms, could not only ascend into Spirit but also come down again and bring a new body with him.
Even as God by special creation formed the bodies of the first Adam and Eve, so ascended masters, after they rise above the limiting confines of the three bodies, can create a body that they had in any incarnation; or can remodel the bodies that they left behind in death, as Jesus’ body was, and make them immortal. Thus Jesus after crucifixion could appear among his disciples for forty days, materializing and dematerializing his form before their eyes.
The results of the final examination at the end of this earthly sojourn will be determined by the sum total of achievements and mental and spiritual diplomas won at the various examinations throughout life. Those totally successful in this last great examination will receive a diploma of divine self-sufficiency, a free and joyous conscience, and blessings, engraved eternally on the parchment of the soul. This rare reward is incorruptible by moths, beyond the reach of thieves and the eraser of time, and is awarded for honorable entry into the Fellowship of Truth.
How do the receptive perceive truth, whereas the unreceptive “seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand”? The ultimate truths of heaven and the kingdom of God, the reality that lies behind sensory perception and beyond the cogitations of the rationalizing mind, can only be grasped by intuition — awakening the intuitive knowing, the pure comprehension, of the soul.
When captured and taken away to be crucified, he told his disciples,“If I would, I could borrow twelve legions of angels from my Father, but I will not.” Instead he gave love. That was a demonstration of Christ Consciousness. Humanity would not have been inspired by or loved a Christ who was a tyrant; but all can love and emulate a son of God who could say, “Father, forgive them.”
Gurudeva Paramahansa Yogananda has said: “The errors of a lifetime can be corrected today….As soon as you give the verdict and strongly will to be a new person, you will change.”
By tapping the all-conquering power of the soul, we can change instantaneously. What prevents this? We are too identified with our flaws, we accept limiting ideas about ourselves, and thereby become weighted down first with discouragement and then inertia. Having made mistakes, we carry around the “excess baggage” of remorse and defeatism.
We need to free ourselves from these dead weights. The secret in doing so is to live in the present. The past is gone; now is the time to make a sincere effort to live our lives as we know God would want us to. If we make a misstep, we should immediately correct ourselves, inwardly ask His help, and try to choose the right course. Instead of dwelling on past errors, focus on the joy the Lord feels when He sees us grow in strength and wisdom. Positive effort, with our attention focused on God, brings a sense of freedom and enthusiasm, and gives tremendous impetus to the will. Dynamic will supported by God’s blessing can accomplish anything. Above all, we can become perfect lovers of God, attuned to Him, absorbed in His love, guided by His wisdom — in control of our destiny.
Do you know why people fail? It is because they give up. I often say that if I had no job, I would shake up the whole world so that it would be glad to give me a job to keep me quiet. You must exercise your will power. If you make up your mind and go forth like a flame, every obstacle in your path will be consumed. The man of realization walks safely even where bullets fly, for the divine will is behind him.
Though joy may be born in conjunction with certain outer conditions, it is not subject to conditions; it often manifests without any material cause. Sometimes you wake up in the morning “walking on air” with joy, and you don’t know why. And when you sit in the silence of deep meditation, joy bubbles up from within, roused by no outer stimulus. The joy of meditation is overwhelming. Those who have not gone into the silence of true meditation do not know what real joy is.
I used to give healings, but I found that after receiving healing of the body, people went away and forgot God. But as soon as you heal your soul you will have everything. So start now. Follow the teachings. Become a member. Help this cause of Self-Realization, and help yourself above all. If you study the teachings even theoretically you will know all there is to know about religion; and if you practice them, you will come to know God even as Christ knew Him.
Though tests in this life are many, if you concentrate on your misfortunes you will find that they are increasingly harder to endure. But if you concentrate on the good in the experiences that come to you, you will find that your good fortune more than outweighs your tests. We so easily allow our minds to be poisoned by our experiences and our difficulties. By the conscious expression of right attitude, learn instead to master your mind.
God is attracted to the compassionate heart. He comes to that pure-sighted devotee who relates to Him as the One hidden within every form. Think of each person as none other than the Lord Himself, wearing a disguise to see how you will react.
