India’s yogis (those who seek union with God through formal scientific methods of yoga) lay the utmost importance on keeping the spine straight during meditation, and upon concentrating on the point between the eyebrows. A bent spine during meditation offers real resistance to the process of reversing the life currents to flow upward towards the spiritual eye. A bent spine throws the vertebrae out of alignment and pinches the nerves, trapping the life force in its accustomed state of body consciousness and mental restlessness.

When, after many incarnations of trials and disappointments in human relationships, two souls are united in divine love, they do not realize at first that they have found the key to the ultimate mysteries and nature of love — their vision cannot fathom the depth of divine love, which has its source in God. In this state, these two souls blissfully enjoy their relationship with one another in the feeling of unconditional, selfless love. Then, after a while, they fall into the ecstasy of oneness in God’s love, and lose entirely the consciousness of separate existence. This is the law of divine love through which Spirit is ever seeking to draw back the many into the One. When a human relationship is perfected by a oneness with God’s love, its diversity merges in harmony with the eternal One.

Seek God first. Then if He directs you into the path of the householder, that is all right. Follow His will. But it must be His wish, not the voice of your desires. Whether or not you are married, get to know Him. Because if you prefer anything to Him, He will not come to you; and without the consciousness of His presence there is no end to the miseries and heartaches that you face. Of first importance is to make sure of that love which will never disappoint you, which will never deceive you; and that is the love of God. When I saw others being deceived that way, I made sure I would not be deceived. I made sure of the love of God. The consciousness of Him who has given me boundless love and security, as nothing else in this world could have given — that is called Christ Consciousness.
