Material desires take away the desire for the Infinite. Every day or so someone tells me I need this or that. It seems ridiculous, because I know that thousands do not have what I am told I “need.” If they don’t need it, why should I? Your only real need is God; there is no other necessity. Be not attached to possessions, music, books, food, or any other sense pleasures. In God you have eternal life. Become aware of this great truth; otherwise your appointments in life will take over, and you will die still bound by them. If you are one with Him, you are not compelled to return to this dream earth again. You are free to come and go as you like, to serve God in His children on earth.
When you make up your mind to do good things, you will accomplish them if you use dynamic will power to follow through. No matter what the circumstances are, if you go on trying, God will create the means by which your will shall find its proper reward. This is the truth Jesus referred to when he said: “If ye have faith, and doubt not,...if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done.” If you continuously use your will power, no matter what reverses come, it will produce success and health and power to help people, and above all, it will produce communion with God.
Open the door of your calmness and let the footsteps of silence gently enter the temple of all your activities. Perform all duties serenely, saturated with peace. Behind the throb of your heart, you shall feel the throb of God’s peace.
Heavenly Father, help me to strengthen my will power. Teach me not to be enslaved by habits. Guide me, that I may develop myself spiritually by inner and outer discipline.
We must lovingly demand as sons of God and not as beggars. Every begging prayer, no matter how sincere, limits the soul. As sons of God, we must believe that we have everything the Father has. This is our birthright. Jesus realized the truth, “I and my Father are one.” That is why he had dominion over everything, even as his Father had. Most of us beg and pray without first establishing, in our own minds, our divine birthright; that is why we are limited by the law of beggary. We do not have to beg, but to reclaim and demand from our Father that which we, through our human imagination, thought to be lost.
It becomes necessary at this stage to destroy the wrong thought of ages—that we are frail human beings.
O Eternal Conqueror! teach me to train noble qualities within me — soldiers of calmness and self-control. Be Thou their Divine General in the battle against the dark foes: anger, ingratitude, untruthfulness. May I raise over the realm of my life Thy flag of invincible righteousness.
Jesus emphasized that salvation begins with those practices that enable the devotee truly to love God with the supreme offerings of heart, mind, soul, and strength. In India’s greatest scripture of yoga, the Bhagavad Gita, the Lord speaks in words that parallel the scriptural commandment cited by Jesus: “Again listen to My supreme word, the most secret of all. Because thou art dearly loved by Me, I will relate what is beneficial to thee. Absorb thy mind in Me; become My devotee; resign all things to Me; bow down to Me. Thou art dear to Me, so in truth do I promise thee: Thou shalt attain Me!”
Jesus Christ is a liaison between East and West. That great master stands before my eyes, telling Orient and Occident: “Come together! My body was born in the East; my spirit and message traveled to the West.” In Christ’s birth as an Asiatic, and his acceptance by Western peoples as their guru, is a divine implication that East and West should unite by exchanging their finest distinctive features.
When by Kriya Yoga I open my spiritual eye, the whole world drops away from my consciousness, and God is with me. And why not? I am His child. St. Ignatius said, “God seeks willing hearts that He may give His bounties to them....” That is most beautiful, and that is what I believe. God seeks willing hearts for the bestowal of His gifts. He is willing to give us everything, but we are not willing to make the effort to be receptive.
