Hey there guys, my name is Skymin and I like talking in-depth about video game-related topics that I spend way too much time thinking about! I have a lot of opinions...

Momocon 2025 is over and was a HUGE SUCCESS!

We had a MASSIVE turnout at the TF2 Photoshoot. The most, by far, I've ever seen in the area at the same time. And I've been doing this for over 10 years! I gave out contracts and Bombinomicon journals (Provided by ‪@NibletsCriblet‬ ) TO TF2 cosplayers and not only did I run out of journals BEFORE the shoot even officially started, but I almost ran out of my contracts supply! I was almost certain I'd be left with a lot of stock, but evidently my assumption was dead wrong!

Shout outs go to the Mann Co. Cosplay Department for organizing the shoot and our photographer ‪@FUNKe‬ for taking some great pictures!

On non-TF2 news, I pushed my comfort zone and not only wore a cosplay that showed more skin than I was use to, but I ALSO competed in ‪@MusclenerdzFitness-llc‬ , a bodybuilding cosplay competition where I manage to snag 3rd place in the Women's category! Considering I'm not a true bodybuilder, flubbing my way through everything AND having my shoe fly off IMMEDIATELY as my routine started, I think 3rd is pretty goooood. The Trainee was a labor of love. Not only do I have genuine appreciation of the game, but I have also never seen anyone do the Trainee, or really anyone from Ring Fit outside of the shopkeepers. I wanted to represent a legitimately good fitness game that I use as a way to force myself to do exercises I hate doing.

Chell (Portal 2) was also ran back and this year I was actually able to carry my retro weighted storage cube around on my back like intended. Plus a Wheatly plush was thrown in to compensate for my lack of portal gun. Although, thanks to the other Chell for offering up the portal gun for a picture! It really does complete the outfit.

It's that time of year again, Momocon time!

I'll be attending this weekend as usual, but unfortunately I'm not hosting any panels this year. On the other hand, I'm still determined to do SOMETHING worthwhile so I have some plans. I'll be attending the TF2 photoshoot on Saturday as Miss Pauling (with an accompanying Administrator) with contracts and unique goodies for all TF2 cosplayers (while supplies last). Not only will the contracts include some additional things for everyone, but I'll also be giving out a special item provided by NibletsNovelties. Seriously, this is gonna be a really useful/cool thing to receive for free, so be sure to catch me if you're in a TF2 cosplayer for the day! Saturday only.

On a more personal note, I'm stepping out of my comfort box with my Ring Fit Trainee cosplay, as this is an outfit that's more revealing than I'm comfortable with. But I wanted to step outsize my comfort zone for something I really wanted to do. Which is cosplay from a random Nintendo fitness game! My desires work in mysterious ways.

In regards to the video I mentioned on the last post: It's not done. Between a 2 week, across the world vacation, then getting sick, then con crunching for myself and others, I had no energy to edit. It'll get done...eventually...but I'm also attending Southern Fried Gaming Expo next month as a panelist, so I have to get those panels ready...VIDEO AT SOME POINT IN TIME.

Wanna keep up with my time at Momocon (and my cosplays in general) then check out my IG: www.instagram.com/skyminslash/

Skymin Video/Content Update - April 2025

I SWEAR THERE'S A VIDEO IN THE WORKS! But first let me talk about non-video things. Housekeeping ya know? TL;DR at the end as always.

In March I attended an event called Hair of the Dragon in March, which was basically an evening of photoshoots in a proper studio space. The first image is a bunch of photos from the events from various photographers! To see more, check out my IG!

The second image is a compilation of stuff I've completed at home. This includes Miss Pauling with a large stack of contracts... If you're attending Momocon next month (Saturday) and cosplaying TF2, you don't want to miss out on catching me. I'll have more than just contracts to give out for free...

Back to the video status. Due to an overwhelming majority, I'm currently in the middle of making a video that talks about the large amount of TF2 props I've made over the years (Image 3). Due to procrastination, I did not manage to get it done before a 2 week vacation. This means my hard, personal deadline is now before Momocon (Late May). I know I haven't uploaded anything, in fact I'm almost certainly an inactive channel according to YT, but I have been meaning to make this video since the beginning of the year.

However, it has spiraled out of control and is now going to be by far the longest scripted video I've made. I don't see this thing being shorter than 40 minutes, since it's condensing 10 years of props as well as some other things.

The sheer amount of IRL recording required for this is larger than anything I've done in the past. Even if it is just setting up the camera in my home and filming cosplay with props, there's a lot of time investment involved that I'm not use to with video making.

So I'm not dead! Just...busy.

TL;DR:
- A TF2 IRL Cosplay Props video is in the works, but is taking a while due to how much needs to be done for it.
- As usual, I'm attending Momocon next month and TF2 cosplayers (on Saturday) will want to find me for free contracts and goodies! I'll talk more in-depth about Momocon later.
- Something, Something, more cosplay work. Yay.

Would you guys watch a long video where I talk about all the TF2 props I've made IRL? I'd be expounding word salad about the process, build and common materials used.

There's like, minimum 20 items I can talk about. Some would be more in depth than others, but it would be a pretty lengthy video with a lot of IRL filming needed. NOTE: Many of my props don't have great in-progress photos. I've only recently started remembering to take them so many of the props will simply have me vocally explaining stuff while showcasing the prop.

Did you know Skymin Streams on Twitch?

If not...uh ENJOY THIS INFORMATION! I've gotten back into the swing of streaming and am now streaming more often than I have in the past few years. I even may be streaming at the time of this community post!

If you're wondering why I don't stream on YT it's for a couple reasons. The first is I don't want to spam this channel with random streams. I could use my secondary channel, but I'm not too keen on doing that. The second is, as much as I don't care for Twitch as a platform, I much less prefer YT's streaming side for multiple reasons.

If you're interested in hearing my inane, unscripted ramblings, come check out my streams!

Skymin's 2024 Retrospective (TL;DR Included)

Boy howdy this was a productive year for me on…well CLEARLY not the video front. Originally I thought I would only make it out of the year with two “real” videos (the MomoCon TF2 panel doesn’t count), but SURPRISE! The final TF2 comic dropped and I was obligated to both this channel and myself to make at least 1 video on it. That's how we got "Miss Pauling: TF2's TRUE Protagonist" within a week of the comic releasing. I also made a single short about the creation of my TF2 Briefcase that did really well.

This was instead a very productive year in terms of my cosplay creations, some of which I've included in the image here. While I tend not to go through the effort of putting together videos about them, I do post to various social medias about them a lot. Considering it marked my 10th year of cosplaying I ended up making a few large collages documenting what I had done the past decade. Considering this isn’t a hobby I make money from I sure have put a lot of time/effort/finances into it! But to me it’s more creatively fulfilling than pumping out videos to please the algorithm.

On the video front, I had intended on doing more this year but the later half of my year ended up very busy between con prep, cosplay making, and TFConnect. And that’s only considering my hobbies, not personal life and corporate work. The video I mentioned the More Gun video was pulled from has only just started to be worked on again. Once again no promises this mammoth sized video will ever come out. I think I’m going to try and create smaller videos and work on it in the background because of the sheer scale of the video.

As a friendly reminder, I am the only one who works on this channel. In the past I’ve had a few people editing things like stream highlights, but the vast majority of what you see out of this channel (especially video essays) are all me. I’m the script writer, commentator, editor, thumbnail maker. I’ll get feedback from friends on things like scripts, but the words are all mine in the end. For someone whose main job isn’t content creation, this is kind of a grueling process when trying to balance everything else in my life.

What’s good though is I think I’ve found my video style. I think leaning into video essays where the format is a combination of footage of me in a relevant costume and disembodied voice over is the way I want to go. I think it’ll help give me more of a style identity, even if it may not be wholly unique. It also gives me an excuse to show off the costumes that are taking up so much damn space in my closet. The downside to this, is this style takes much more time and effort to put together than simply commentating over gameplay footage. As much as I enjoy highlight videos, they’ve proven time and time again not to resonate with my audience so I have no plans on making any stream highlight videos.
HOWEVER, I do intend to stream more than I have been. I want to get back into the habit for a few personal reasons, but it will also give me another outlet to discuss my thoughts and opinions that aren’t large enough to make a video on, or would end up performing terribly due to my audience. Believe it or not I do have opinions on media outside of TF2. I have LOTS of them.

Anyhow, here's to 2025!

TL;DR
- Cosplay making is still my main creative outlet, as it’s the most enjoyable for me.
- I’ll try to make more than 3 videos next year, but reminder: I am an adult with adulting duties. Motivation is hard. And I’m the only one that works on this channel.
- I think my video essay style going forward is going to rely on filming cosplays as visual aids. It gives me a reason to utilize my costumes and adds a little personal flair to my videos.
- I intend to stream more (on that OTHER site). It’s a much easier outlet to interact with you guys as well as giving me a chance to discuss topics not worthy for full scripted videos.

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2024 - TF2 Photoshoot

Hey guys! If you saw my last post you'll know I attended AWA this weekend and had a couple of things I was attending. One of these was a TF2 group photoshoot. Seeing as I had control over the pictures this time around (AKA they were taken with my phone) the pictures are already edited and ready to be seen! drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nsIaGlt_ewsZzCFcck…

This was the first gathering put together by a regional TF2 cosplay group that's been formed by a couple of community members on the east coast (US). I've been helping them out with some things, as I'm very glad to see someone else trying to organize TF2 cosplayers in my area. The west coast and UK have groups organizing them, but East coast hasn't ever managed to get the ball properly rolling on one. Considering how last minute all the AWA photoshoots were put together, I think ours turned out very well, much of which is thanks to our last minute photographer. The smaller group actually ended up being a blessing in disguise as it allowed up to set up more dynamic shots and poses.

If you're in the area or plan on attending any cons on the East/Southern Coast, consider checking out the group! ESPECIALLY if you cosplay TF2.

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2024 + Small Update

As always, I'll be attending AWA with our panel "Game That Tune: Video Game Music Trivia."

For once in AWA's life, there is a planned TF2 Photoshoot this year! If you're heading out to the con and are cosplaying TF2 on Saturday, be sure to swing by the photoshoot! As a warning, all available photoshoot locations are outside this year so expect it to be cold. This was not something we had control of, these were the locations the con provided everyone.

Small Update: I've been very busy preparing for this con as well as working on TFConnect, which just had it's annual December event yesterday. We've raised $13,000+ for SpecialEffect and donations are still active! I intended to make a post about it here, but I ended up being way to busy to do so. If you caught the show, I hope it was enjoyable (or catch the VOD on Twitch)! I was brought in as the Segment Producer and had a heavy hand in the segments and schedule, as well as participating in several live segments. We were working with limited time to get it together this year and I'm proud of what we managed to accomplish. Next year is planned to be bigger and better!

All this to say, I've only had the time or motivation to work on cosplays. Videos have fallen to the wayside as usual. But also, I'm not dead. I never die. My priorities are just elsewhere.

TF2 Cosplay Photoshoot - DragonCon 2024

Here are *some* of the photos from the official photographer! None of my mediocre phone photos here! Due to YT posts having a small number of photos allowed, you can check out all of them (including solo class shots) in one of two places:

1. You can brave the depths of hell with the Reddit post: www.reddit.com/r/tf2/s/ixovS2bcDS

2. You can check them out on IG, however I am doling them out as separate posts due to image ratio restrictions: www.instagram.com/skyminslash/profilecard/?igsh=eH…

Skymin: UPDATE & Obligatory Cosplay

Hey guys! I just recently put out the first REAL, non-cosplay related video since last year. If you haven't seen me ramble on about the song 'More Gun' having a dumb number of versions, go check it out! I swear it's (vaguely) more interesting than it sounds. https://youtu.be/Jh_WALXpmeM

I hope you guys enjoyed this most recent video! It actually took a lot more effort than I realized it would, which is a daunting feeling considering I pulled this topic out of a much...bigger video. I genuinely don't know if that's a video I'll ever get finished. The script still isn't anywhere done (ignoring the fact I've worked very little on it recently), but the reception to the last video is motivating and it's given me some practice with the editing required for it!

I've had a bad habit of starting scripts but not finishing them. There are too many video topics that have begun the scripting phase but never completed. Maybe I'll get to them some day, but my videos will continue to be sporadic.

A community post means I get to subject those of you that don't follow me on social media to my cosplays! So here's a bit of what I've done since the last community post update. My IG (@skyminslash) is the best place to see my stream of props and costumes :). And as a friendly reminder, this is where a lot of my creative juices and time has gone. It's generally less stress inducing for me to work on and it produces a product I'm proud of that isn't reliant on positive audience feedback for validation and income.

As always, you can catch me at pretty much any Georgia convention, with the next two big ones this year being Dragoncon (as posted previously) and Anime Weekend Atlanta all the way in December. AWA will have another "Game That Tune" panel from us, so if anyone happens to enjoy video game music trivia, you've got something to look forward to that isn't drenched in anime-ness at that con!
