Three #Friends Left #Home to #Watch #Football . None of Them Made It Back.

What began as an ordinary #evening of football among friends ended in one of the most #heartbreaking tragedies imaginable.

Charles Mutiso, Stanley, and Kennedy had gone to watch a football #match in #Machakos. Like many young people, they wanted nothing more than to enjoy the game and return home safely. Instead, all three lost their lives in a chain of events that has left families, friends, and an entire #community devastated AND searching for answers.

According to accounts surrounding the incident, the tragedy began when Charles was struck by a vehicle allegedly belonging to a muguka businessman based in Machakos. The impact reportedly killed Charles instantly.

Shocked and devastated by the sudden loss of their friend, Stanley and Kennedy—who were brothers and close friends of Charles—confronted the driver. Witness accounts indicate that they attempted to stop him from leaving the scene before authorities arrived, demanding accountability for what had happened. In an effort to ensure the matter was handled lawfully, they reportedly tried to take the vehicle keys and prevent the driver from driving away.

What followed was a confrontation that quickly escalated beyond control.

According to reports and accounts circulating among those following the case, the driver allegedly began shouting that the young men were attempting to steal his vehicle, portraying himself as the victim of an attack. Within moments, confusion spread through the area.

Members of the public and bodaboda riders gathered at the scene, many unaware of the events that had led to the confrontation. Acting on accusations rather than facts, the crowd allegedly turned against Stanley and Kennedy. The two young men were brutally beaten and later burned by the mob.

In a matter of minutes, three promising young lives were lost.

Charles had recently graduated from KCA University and had secured employment as a web developer, marking the beginning of what promised to be a successful career. Kennedy was building his future in the insurance sector, while Stanley, only 22 years old, was a student at Machakos University awaiting graduation later this year.

They were sons, brothers, friends, and young men with dreams, ambitions, and futures worth living for. Their lives represented hope not only for themselves but for the families who believed in them and supported them every step of the way.

The suspect linked to the incident has since appeared before the Machakos Law Courts and remains in custody pending investigations. As the legal process continues, many are calling for a thorough investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable.

This tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the dangers of mob justice. No accusation should become a death sentence. No individual should be condemned without evidence, investigation, and due process. When anger replaces truth and crowds replace the justice system, innocent lives can be lost forever.

Today, families mourn three young men who left home expecting to return. They never did.

As we remember Charles Mutiso, Stanley, and Kennedy, we honour not only the lives they lived but also the futures that were taken from them. Their story must not be forgotten. Their deaths should challenge us to choose justice over vengeance, truth over rumours, and humanity over violence.

May the souls of Charles, Stanley, and Kennedy rest in eternal peace.
