He was fleeing a war he refused to fight.
“Would you like to share a table?” he asked, moments after I stepped into the restaurant. It was packed, and we were both dining alone.
Over steaming bowls of goulash, he told me everything.
How he left his mother, his wife, and the life he knew back in Russia.
How he lost his job for choosing exile over enlistment.
How sanctions froze his finances, forcing him to convert his savings into crypto.
We sat only feet apart from each other, but the distance between our realities couldn’t have been greater.
I was in Budapest by choice, free to go home whenever I wanted. He was there because he had no home to return to.
In America, we convince ourselves we’re in complete control of our destiny. We treat stability like the air we breathe, a given, until we run out of it.
Sometimes the greatest privilege is never having to find out how fast everything can be taken from you.

Freedom cost her exactly $50,000.
In her 5 years wandering the world as a nomad, @SaraBurdick kept returning to Colombia. Something about this place felt like home.
So in 2024, she bought 1.5 acres with a fixer-upper coffee farm in the Antioqueña countryside - straight cash, no debt.
How did she do it?

What if you had a prestigious, profitable, and stable life that you knew deep down wasn't right for you? 🧐
Would you leave it all behind for a new one with no guarantees?
Sara Burdick (@SaraBurdick) did. She quit the American rat race to live on a Colombian coffee farm she bought for only $50,000.
Before that, she was working multiple nursing jobs in Los Angeles, caught in the cycle of earning and consuming. Despite all the money she was making, she couldn't look in in the mirror without thought thinking "I'm not happy."
How did she find the courage to take leap into the uknown? Does she have any regrets?
Find out the answers to these questions and more by learning about Sara's radical reinvention in my latest video. 👇

I used to think travel was all about seeing new places. ✈️
But what I ultimately discovered from nearly a decade of nomading across 40 countries (and counting) is something far richer and deeper.
It started with quitting my job in the unusual (and unconventional) world of Las Vegas nightlife marketing in 2016, buying a one-way ticket to Europe, and a conversation with a stranger that changed everything for me.

“We must not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we began and to know the place for the first time.” - TS Elliot
This sums up how I feel about travel. Seeing more of the world has made more appreciative of where I'm from.
Whenever I'm back in my hometown of Vallejo, CA, I like to do things that support the local economy. Things like eating at new restaurants or attending community events (like concerts by this incredible up and coming rapper named LaRussell of @GoodCompenny. Go check him out!).
For those of you who've traveled a lot, how has it changed your view of where you're from?

What's it like to live inside one of the most famous houses in the world?
George Horsfall is owner of one of the iconic Painted Ladies located in San Francisco's Alamo Square. Living inside his baby blue painted lady is like living in a proverbial "fish bowl".
But there are two other words that come to mind for him that describe what life is like between those walls.
"One is magic," he said. "And one is disconnect..."
Learn more about what he means by watching the video I made about George's unique home. ⬇️
