⚡ A 1980s FLOOD SURVIVOR... Should I rip it? ⚡

This copy of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid (1980 Scandinavian NEMS) has been through hell. Back in the 80s, my basement flooded, and this record was one of the primary victims. As you can see, the bottom of the sleeve was completely destroyed by the water damage.

Against all odds, the vinyl itself survived!

It also hides a really strange mastering error: on War Pigs, the audio drops out completely in the gap after "masses", right before cutting back in for "Just like witches at black masses..."!

🎧 Behind the Scenes: High Standards & Lessons from the Cabin Setup

A quick update regarding my recent announcements about the upcoming Tom Petty and Black Sabbath features!

I recently test-ripped a lineup of absolute classics up at the cabin using the Dual 1214 and the NAD 3020A:

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Damn the Torpedoes
Black Sabbath – Sabotage
Deep Purple – Machine Head
Neil Young – After the Gold Rush
Warren Zevon – Excitable Boy
Rush – A Farewell to Kings
Fleetwood Mac – Rumours & Mirage

Interestingly, these sounded great coming straight through the room speakers during playback. However, when critically auditing the direct line-out captures, I caught some subtle dynamic compression and slight distortion—the classic signs of slightly light tracking force on the Dual 1214 tonearm.

Because I want to maintain the highest audio standards for Spinning The Black Circle, I’ve decided to hold off on releasing these specific cabin rips—including Damn the Torpedoes.

I’ll be recalibrating the tracking force and re-cutting these legendary albums on the main home rig to ensure they get the clean, high-resolution transfers they deserve.

Quality always comes first here! In the meantime, the upcoming Uriah Heep – Look at Yourself transfer (cut on the home rig) is 80% ready and dropping soon. Stay tuned! ⚡
