I hear many of you are surprised to see your favorite Youtube channels suddenly change direction in their content and sponsors. The reason is that many of these channels have been sold to private equity companies, who are now running them. Some of the channels announced this change, some of them did not.
These private equity firms approached us to buy us out too. Let’s be honest, many of these deals come with millions and millions of dollars. So, what did we do? Well, hold on to your papers Fellow Scholars, because I have a big announcement to make today! And the big announcement is that from now on, the content on this channel is going to be elevated because… we have rejected all of their offers.
We don’t take any money from these people. When we had our first million views, it took years and we earned less than a dollar a day from the channel. This has never been about the money. We don’t maximize profits, we maximize meaning.
And thank you so much for being with us for so long! I love my job, and I run up the stairs every day to show you a magical paper and learn new things together with such a super smart and receptive audience. Really, really grateful for your support - it means so much to me. All this is only possible because of you Fellow Scholars! We can only exist because of you. Thank you so much for everything!
