Navajo Traditional Teachings
In this week's video Wally teaches about a phrase in the language of our people.
.
The phrase is being lost and few people know the meaning of it.
.
Before we shot this video we had to travel around Navajo Land and find other elders. Other elders that could help us understand the phrase.
.
There were only a few who knew.
.
Basically the phrase means... The future will be better but you have to make the effort with courage. You'll hear it in the video.
.
This problem (fewer and fewer people who know these old words) is getting worse. They say the language will start to die when there are no more elders who can make new words.
.
I don't know when that is but I feel like it is closer than anyone wants to admit.
.
I think with courageous effort we will somehow prevail.
.
Talk soon,
Shane "Courageous effort" Brown

We’ve been away for a while… Wally’s wonderful wife of 52 years has gone to the next place… the Glittering World.
Knowing the Traditional Teachings that “beyond old age there is joy”, lessens the grief. But, our feelings are still tender as we adjust to life without our Matriarch.
She was a big part of encouraging me (Shane) and Wally to share these teachings with all of you.
Although we are still mourning, we know that it is important to keep moving forward.
Thank you for your patience, kindness, thoughts and prayers. We look forward to next week and bringing you more of the Traditional Teachings of our Diné.
