I know I’ve been quieter here recently.

I’m writing this from Iceland, surrounded by cold sea, mountains, glaciers and a landscape that is beautiful in a way that is not particularly friendly.

For years I treated this channel as something I did alongside my real professional life. I made the videos because I wanted to make them, researched these subjects because they mattered to me, and somehow more than 15,000 of you decided to stay and listen.

My professional life has changed this year. Somewhere here in Iceland I finally understood that perhaps it is time to stop treating this work as something secondary.

So I have been quiet because I am preparing something larger.

I am beginning work on The Modern Lemegeton, a serious illustrated work on the spirits of the Goetia, combining the old sources, historical material, my own years of practice and a modern interpretation of the tradition. The first volume will deal with the first thirty six spirits.

Iceland has also given me something I did not expect.

In the middle of the night, high in the Icelandic mountains, I encountered what I would call elves. Not the harmless beings of modern fantasy. What I experienced was darker, older and considerably less welcoming.

I had the distinct impression that they recognized me. And, for whatever reason, I was allowed to leave that mountain that dark night.

I will write about them too. Partly because the experience belongs in the book, but also out of courtesy and respect for the fact that I was allowed to leave. Some encounters are not trophies. They are things you acknowledge properly.

Iceland is extraordinary, but I would not describe it as a gentle place. The landscape feels ancient, indifferent and sometimes hostile. Once you are away from the towns, some of the old stories begin to feel considerably less quaint.

I want to make the book I always wished existed. Not another list of names, seals and copied descriptions. Something based on texts, practice and experiences I am prepared to put my name behind.

When I return from Iceland, this becomes my main work for a while. Videos will return, but I think it is time for me to finally give this work the seriousness I have given other parts of my life.

##Beyond the Spirit: Why I No Longer Speak About Spirits the Way I Once Did


Every creator eventually reaches a moment when they look back at their earlier work and realise they would no longer create it in the same way.

This is one of those moments.

For many years I made videos discussing spirits, grimoires and the practical traditions of Western Hermeticism. Those videos reflected where I was at that point in my own journey.

I do not regret them.

But I no longer believe they represent the questions that interest me today.

That is not because I have abandoned Hermeticism.

Quite the opposite.

The deeper I have gone into its literature, philosophy and symbolism, the less interested I have become in speaking about spirits as if they were simply personalities waiting to be described.

## Symbols Are Not Personalities

One of the greatest misunderstandings surrounding Western Hermeticism is the assumption that spirits exist merely to be catalogued.

People naturally ask questions such as:

*"How do I invoke this spirit?"*

*"What powers does this spirit possess?"*

*"Which grimoire describes it?"*

*"Which spirit is stronger?"*

Years ago I probably would have answered those questions.

Today I find them increasingly uninteresting.

Not because they are forbidden.

But because they reduce something symbolic into something literal.

Hermeticism has never spoken only through facts.

It speaks through symbols.

Through correspondences.

Through myths.

Through images that reveal different meanings depending upon the person contemplating them.

A sword is rarely only a sword.

A mountain is rarely only a mountain.

A spirit is rarely only a spirit.

This is precisely why the old masters rarely spoke directly.

They taught through images, myths, visions, allegories and symbolic figures.

They understood that symbolism does not merely transmit information.

It invites contemplation.

It asks the reader to participate in the search for meaning rather than simply consume an answer.

The purpose of symbolism is not to provide answers.

Its purpose is transformation through understanding.

## Why I Began Making Music

This is one of the reasons I began creating albums instead of simply recording more lectures.

A lecture explains.

Art suggests.

A lecture concludes.

A symbol remains alive.

When Belphegor speaks in *Beautiful Machines*, he is not speaking about artificial intelligence.

He is speaking about us.

He watches humanity repeating routines until people themselves begin to resemble magnificent mechanisms.

Beautiful.

Efficient.

Sophisticated.

Yet increasingly detached from contemplation and inner life.

The irony is that the demon quietly wonders whether human beings have become spiritually mechanical.

That question interests me far more than describing Belphegor himself.

The same applies throughout the Infernal Court.

The spirits are no longer subjects.

They have become voices.

Literary figures.

Symbols through which larger human stories can be explored.

## The Problem With Explaining Everything

Something else slowly became clear to me.

Every explanation narrows possibility.

Every definition fixes a single interpretation.

A living symbol, however, should never be exhausted by one explanation.

The moment a symbol can be fully explained, it ceases to be a symbol and becomes merely information.

Eventually I realised that speaking endlessly about spirits was beginning to flatten them.

The more precisely we describe symbolic figures, the more we risk imprisoning them inside our own interpretations.

Perhaps this is why medieval writers, alchemists and hermetic philosophers so often preferred allegory over explanation.

A symbol that cannot be completely explained continues to live.

One that has been reduced to a definition slowly dies.

## From Demonology to Storytelling

Many years ago, Collin de Plancy collected, described and illustrated spirits in ways that reflected his own time.

His work transformed inherited tradition into something new.

Whether one agrees with his interpretations is almost beside the point.

He was not merely copying earlier grimoires.

He entered into a creative dialogue with them.

Perhaps every generation should do the same.

My own medium is no longer engraving.

It is music.

Film.

Narrative.

Images.

The Infernal Court is not an attempt to document spirits.

It is an attempt to let symbols speak again through contemporary art.

## A Different Kind of Question

Perhaps this explains why I answer fewer questions today.

Not because I wish to become mysterious.

Nor because I believe discussion is unimportant.

Quite simply because I have become interested in different questions.

Not...

*"How should this spirit be approached?"*

But...

*"Why did generations of magicians preserve this figure in the first place?"*

Not...

*"What powers does this spirit possess?"*

But...

*"What does this symbolic figure reveal about human beings?"*

Not...

*"Which grimoire gives the best description?"*

But...

*"Why did different traditions imagine this figure in different ways?"*

To me, those are profoundly different conversations.

## The Future of Magister Clavus

Magister Clavus is changing.

The channel is slowly becoming less about explaining symbols...

...and more about creating them.

Perhaps some people will enjoy that journey.

Others may prefer the older videos.

Both are perfectly understandable.

Every creator changes.

Every path eventually leads somewhere unexpected.

As for me, I have discovered that I no longer wish merely to describe the spirits of old grimoires.

I would rather invite them into stories.

Not as objects of curiosity.

But as mirrors through which we might better understand ourselves.

If these works leave some questions unanswered...

...perhaps that is not a failure.

Perhaps that is exactly what symbols are meant to do.

Many of you know Magister Clavus through the Chronicles, the Imperial Court and the fictional stories inspired by Western Hermeticism.

Today's upload is something a little different.

I've been listening to electronic music -especially dark melodic techno - for more than thirty years. Even now, as I'm approaching fifty, it's still one of my favourite genres to relax, work or simply think.

I wanted to see what would happen if I brought that passion into the world of Magister Clavus.

This mix isn't another Chronicle or a continuation of the Imperial Court. It's simply music inspired by the same fictional universe, created for those who enjoy this style of electronic music.

Some of you will love it.

Some of you may prefer the narrative videos.

That's perfectly fine.

Beelzebub waits. His design remains hidden, his intentions older than empires and perhaps older than time itself.

Astaroth remembers. Lost among the echoes of celestial wars and the memory of the Fall, she watches humanity with growing irritation. Kingdoms rise and collapse. Creeds are born and forgotten. Yet mortals continue to repeat the same mistakes.

Meanwhile, Bune wanders the streets of Berlin.

The clubs are closed.

The music has faded.

The first light of dawn touches the river.

Then, in the pocket of her coat, an old Nokia begins to ring.

No number.

No name.

Only a voice.

“Prends ton temps, chère Bune.”

A pause.

Then a quiet laugh.

“Everyone eventually comes.”

The line goes dead.

France awaits.
