She lost her job.
But somehow, everyone around her started behaving as if she had lost her worth too.
A girl came back home after being laid off from her dream job.
Anyone who has experienced a layoff knows what follows.
The anxiety.
The embarrassment.
The uncertainty.
The constant question: “What am I going to do now?”
At a time when she desperately needed someone to say,
“It’s okay. You’ll figure this out. We’re with you.”
She heard something completely different.
“Forget the job for now.”
“Just get married.”
“You can restart your career afterwards.”
She was exhausted, so for a moment, even she thought:
Maybe they’re right. Maybe I should take a break.
But slowly, the conversation changed.
From marriage to her worth.
She started hearing:
“You have flaws.”
“Our family has problems.”
“Don’t expect too much.”
“If a decent man is willing to accept you, just say yes.”
And perhaps the most heartbreaking message of all:
You don’t really have the right to reject anyone.
Imagine hearing that from the very people who were supposed to remind you of your worth.
Suddenly her degrees didn’t matter.
Her years of building a career didn’t matter.
Her independence didn’t matter.
Her preferences didn’t matter.
Her NO didn’t matter.
Marriage became less about finding a compatible life partner and more about:
“Bas shaadi karni hai. Jaldi niptaana hai.”
One month.
Two months.
Four months.
Her entire life had suddenly become someone else’s deadline.
And I keep thinking about how cruel that can feel.
She was already grieving one loss.
Instead of helping her rebuild, the people closest to her gave her another battle:
the battle to remember that she was still worthy.
Losing a job doesn’t make a woman less deserving of a good partner.
Being temporarily unemployed doesn’t erase her education, intelligence, ambitions or identity.
Having an imperfect family doesn’t mean she should accept an incompatible marriage as some kind of favour.
And marriage should NEVER be presented to a woman as:
“Be grateful somebody is willing to accept you.”
She isn’t a burden waiting to be transferred from one household to another.
She is a human being choosing the person with whom she may spend the rest of her life.
There is a difference.
Sometimes people don’t need advice when their life falls apart.
They need someone who doesn’t use their weakest moment to convince them that they deserve less.
A layoff can take away your job.
Don’t let anyone use it to take away your self-worth, your choices, or your voice too.

Some women are not “difficult.”
They are simply difficult to control.
I feel suffocated when someone tries to tame me.
When I’m told to speak less.
React less.
Question less.
Express less.
Be a little more “adjusting.”
Because slowly, adjustment can start looking like erasure.
And I know I’m not the only woman who has felt this.
So many girls grow up learning how to become acceptable versions of themselves.
Be ambitious — but not intimidating.
Be independent — but know your limits.
Have opinions — but don’t make people uncomfortable.
Speak — but only when your voice is convenient.
And somewhere between being a good daughter, good partner, good wife, good employee, good woman…
she forgets what it feels like to simply be HER.
Your individuality is not disrespect.
Your voice is not arrogance.
Your boundaries are not rebellion.
Your independence is not something that needs to be tamed.
Find your stage.
Maybe it’s your career.
Maybe it’s writing.
Maybe it’s art.
Maybe it’s a tiny corner of the internet where you finally say what you have swallowed for years.
But please, don’t spend your entire life becoming smaller so other people can feel bigger.
You were not born merely to fit into someone else’s definition of a woman.
You were born with a voice. Use it. ❤️

Everyone is a job-search guru right now. 😭
“Learn AI.”
“Learn DSA.”
“Fix your resume.”
“Apply 50 jobs daily.”
“Don’t apply, only network.”
“Build projects.”
“Personal branding karo.”
Bhai, suno sabki. But dimaag apna lagao.
There is no single strategy that works for everyone.
Pick an approach.
Give it a fair shot.
Set a deadline.
Applied for 2 weeks and zero calls? Change something.
Referrals aren’t working? Try direct outreach.
Resume isn’t converting? Rewrite it.
New skill isn’t helping? Stop collecting tutorials and reassess.
Job searching is an experiment.
Try → Measure → Learn → Change → Repeat.
Don’t become a spectator of 100 career gurus while your own strategy isn’t working.
Sometimes the best career advice is simply:
Think for yourself.

I don’t think we start hating people because they hurt us.
Sometimes, we start feeling differently about them because they watched us drowning and continued behaving like everything was normal.
They knew.
They knew you weren’t sleeping.
They knew you were barely holding yourself together.
They knew that behind “I’m okay” was someone desperately hoping that somebody would ask twice.
And the strangest part?
They still called themselves your people.
Then came the day when you realised—
Nobody is coming.
So you started saving yourself.
Maybe you became distant.
Maybe you stopped answering calls.
Maybe you buried yourself in work.
Maybe you became obsessed with money, success, spirituality, the gym, travelling—anything that gave you a reason to wake up tomorrow.
Were all your coping mechanisms perfect?
Probably not.
But you were surviving a war nobody volunteered to fight beside you.
And somehow, the same people who couldn’t find five minutes to sit beside you…
found plenty of time to judge how you survived without them.
“You’ve changed.”
Of course I have.
You met me before the fire.
Then you left me inside it.
You don’t get to complain about the person who walked out.
Perhaps healing isn’t always forgiving everyone and returning to who you were.
Sometimes healing is simply remembering:
Who held your hand.
Who disappeared.
And most importantly—
who you became when nobody came.

“Pasand ka mard” suna tha.
Nobody warned me about “pasand ki job.” 😭
You spend months interviewing, preparing, manifesting, and dreaming about getting into that company.
Then you finally get it.
Dream company.
Great brand.
Exciting domain.
Fintech.
Everything you wanted. ✨
And then the job says:
“Welcome aboard! Here are 17 internal tools you’ve never seen before, limited guidance, a completely new ecosystem… and btw, can you deliver this project in a week?” 💀
Me: But I just joined?
Corporate: Exactly. Great learning opportunity. 🙂
And that’s when I realized—
Pasand ka mard ho ya pasand ki job,
milne tak butterflies hote hain…
milne ke baad compatibility test. 😂
Right now, I’m somewhere between:
“I’m so grateful to be here 🥹”
and
“Bhai mujhe kuch samajh kyun nahi aa raha hai?” 😭
But maybe this is what growth actually looks like sometimes.
Not aesthetic.
Not comfortable.
Just you, 27 tabs open, questionable confidence, and a deadline approaching at full speed.
Anyway…
Pasand ki job mil gayi hai.
Ab bas job ko main pasand aa jaun. 😂
