#FedGeoDay was an amazing success and extremely enlightening learning about open source initiatives and projects focused on the U.S. federal government. One of our top picks from that event has to be the keynote by USGS EROS's acting director, Pete Doucette, Ph.D. who gave a incredible talk on Landsat and analyst ready data.

Project Gathering Flock is an on-going initiative designed to acquire overhead and supporting data in multiple modalities for further use in GEOINT-based Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning (AI/ML) workflows and general imagery collection research and development. Funded by ManTech’s Innovation and Capabilities Office (ICO), the program started in mid-2021 and has a fully developed project plan into 2022 and beyond.
ManTech’s Geospatial Demonstration Capability (GDC) project brought together academia and industry to conduct imagery co-collection in December 2021 using drones and aircraft carrying multiple sensors. Working with the ManTech Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) group, the Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) Digital imaging and Remote Sensing Laboratory (DIRS), SpecTIR, TruWeather Solutions, and Project Geospatial, we performed multiple sensor calibrations and concurrently collected over two terabytes of hyperspectral, infrared, thermal and LIDAR data along with supporting weather data and geometric and radiometric calibration data centered on a small airfield near Woodstock, VA. Data were collected over small and medium-sized areas ranging from 2.2 km2 to 3.7 km2.
